Disability Claims Appeals Specialist

As a Disability Claims Appeals Specialist, you will be part of a national disability management team within the Group and Commercial Insurance vice-presidency of Desjardins Insurance. You help develop and implement strategies for life and health insurance claims, occupational health and disability management. You analyze and help diagnose issues, provide advice in accordance with your discipline's rules and help develop recommendations and implementation plans. You develop tools, methods and processes. Your projects and initiatives require extensive knowledge of your line of work. You share ideas and help solve problems using your analytical skills, extensive knowledge of your line of business and ability to manage complexity. You interact with stakeholders working in other fields. You provide discipline-specific support to your unit, clients and partners. More specifically, you will be required to:
  • Review and analyze short- and long-term disability claims that have been denied and are in the first stage of the appeal process prior to review
  • Make recommendations and provide basic coaching as required
  • Communicate effectively with your team and all stakeholders involved in your disability cases
  • Identify gaps and use appropriate interventions and tools
  • Help identify trends in case management where improvements can be made

What you bring to the table
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field
  • A minimum of three years relevant experience, including two years in disability case management or other relevant experience
  • Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
  • Experience with complex disability claims
  • Experience reviewing appeal files
  • Expert proficiency in English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
