Kids Swimwear Designer
to join their private label fashion company in New York City.Salary/Hourly Rate:$80,000 - $90,000 depending on experiencePosition Overview:The ideal Kids Swimwear Designer candidate will have a passion for children's fashion and swimwear, a keen eye for trends, and a deep understanding of garment construction and fabric performance. This Kids Swimwear Designer role involves developing seasonal swim collections that align with the brand’s vision while ensuring functionality, comfort, and style for kids.Responsibilities of the Kids Swimwear Designer:
Design and Development: Create and execute original swimwear designs for children (infants, toddlers, and young kids) based on trend research and brand guidelines. Develop seasonal swimwear collections, including sketches, colorways, patterns, and fabric selections. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (buying, marketing, and production) to align on design direction and strategy
Trend Research: Conduct research on emerging trends, materials, and competitive analysis to ensure the brand stays ahead of market trends. Adapt fashion trends into age-appropriate, stylish swimwear designs for children
Technical Design: Work with the technical design team to ensure fit, construction, and fabric performance meet the brand's quality standards. Review and approve fabric swatches, color samples, and garment prototypes. Oversee fittings and ensure proper garment fit and functionality for children's activewear needs
Material and Fabric Selection: Source and select performance-driven fabrics that ensure comfort, UV protection, durability, and eco-friendliness. Stay updated on sustainable materials and ensure the integration of environmentally conscious options when possible
Product Development: Manage the design process from concept through final production, including creating tech packs with detailed specifications for factories. Ensure timely development and delivery of samples for presentations and marketing shoots. Work closely with manufacturers to ensure high-quality production and resolve any issues that arise during the development process
Collaboration: Partner with the merchandising and marketing teams to ensure designs align with the overall business and market objectives. Participate in design presentations and product reviews with company leadership and external stakeholders
Qualifications for the Kids Swimwear Designer:
3 to 5+ years of experience in kids apparel/swimwear design, with a strong portfolio showcasing swimwear designs
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), CAD programs, and other design software
Strong understanding of children's fashion, swimwear fabrics, fit, and functionality
Experience with fabric sourcing, pattern making, and tech pack development
Knowledge of current fashion and market trends in children’s swimwear and a passion for innovation
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong communication, collaboration, and time-management skills
Experience in sustainable fashion design, particularly in swimwear
Knowledge of print design and pattern-making for children’s swim collections
Prior experience working with overseas manufacturers and understanding of the production lifecycle
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field is required
