Sompo has a unique opportunity for an Assistant Vice president, Allied Healthcare Underwriter as part of our Healthcare team.

Our Healthcare Underwriting team offers solutions for Miscellaneous Healthcare facilities writing Healthcare Professional Liability, General Liability, and other ancillary lines for primary, Umbrella, and Excess risks. We work through a network of brokers who share our commitment to long-term partnerships built on a strong service proposition.

What you'll be doing:
  • The Underwriter will use internal and external data to make appropriate individual and portfolio risk decisions.
  • Responsible for the profitable growth of an assigned book of business, utilizing underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. Underwriting Miscellaneous Healthcare which consists of Healthcare Professional Liability, General Liability, and other ancillary lines for primary, Umbrella, and Excess risks
  • Ability to evaluate all individual risk characteristics and properly determine capacity, attachment point, terms and pricing. This includes understanding pricing components and rating methodology as well as use of the predictive modeling tools
  • Foster and utilize expertise within the company including claims, actuarial, and business development
  • Maintain and enhance existing broker relationships as well as identify and develop new relationships within the Southeast region with both retail and wholesale partners
  • Drive effective relationship management and customer activities to build trust, facilitate negotiation and secure commitment with the customer
  • Proactively identify cross-sell opportunities and partners with other underwriters to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions for the customer


What you'll bring:
  • Established relationships with Retail and Wholesale brokers
  • Minimum of 7 years of Healthcare Professional Underwriting Experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel approximate 10% of the time
