Summary:

Responsible for safe transportation of nursing home residents for outings with the activity department, scheduled doctors' appointments, shopping trips, and other necessary trips. The driver is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the facility vehicles (currently a minivan and a bus).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Retrieves resident information from facility's electronic medical record system (currently Point Click Care)Confirms all appointments one business day in advance with each neighborhood Service CoordinatorLoads and unloads the resident(s) for each tripRemains alert for any change in the resident(s) condition; reports changes immediately to nursing staffTreats all residents with respect and dignity and maintains confidentialityResearches and plans for delays due to traffic, construction, or weatherDevelops and maintains a positive working relationship with all departments of the facility. Meets with appropriate personnel on a regular basis to identify and correct problem areas or improve serviceDrives the facility vehicle for errands as needed by other departments as schedule allowsVehicle Maintenance:

Maintains fluids in vehicles including gasoline, oil, brakes, and windshield cleanerSchedules routine maintenance of the vehicle i.e. oil changes, tires, batteries, service. Arranges for service and/or repairs as needed. Keeps the vehicle clean inside and out via a professional car washing serviceKeeps vehicle registrations and handicapped placards up-to-dateKeeps accurate records of all mileage and expenses; submits receipts timely to the business officeReports all incidents/accidents and unsafe/hazardous equipment immediatelyMaintains a daily log of all transportation start/end times, purpose, location and elder/department; submits log to supervisor weekly via emailPrioritizes safety for everyone in and around the vehicle, including passengers, other drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. Follows all safety regulations and standards, practices safe driving habits, and remains aware of surrounding vehiclesCompletes pre- and post-trip checklists and documentation, uses navigation technology to find routes, and interacts professionally with othersRequirements

Good knowledge of traffic laws; follows safety regulations including abstinence from substances which may impede safe drivingExcellent customer service skillsGood verbal and written communication skillsAttention to detail and ability to work independently and under constraintsTime-management skillsFlexibility in working hours - the ability to occasionally work during evenings and weekends

Education and/or Experience:

Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED). Must be able to provide a clean driving record and demonstrate knowledge of proper use of a wheelchair.

Computer Skills:

Must be able to proficiently use MS Outlook for communication and facility EMR (i.e., PCC to access driving schedule

Language Skills:

Must be able to read, write and speak English in an understandable manner.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

Valid Colorado Driver License in good standing

Mathematical Skills:

Must be able to read numbers on all resident rooms and building addresses

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions and to accept constructive criticism.
