POSITION DESCRIPTION

Do you like supervising people and developing systems for project management? Are you good at managing multiple projects and team members? Do you like coordinating timelines and outside contractors and keeping projects on course? If so this is the position for you.

Baltimore Green Space is currently seeking a candidate for the role of Program Director to coordinate the work of two program managers and streamline educational programmatic work. A major goal is to collaborate with internal teams to produce high-quality environmental education programs and green space support for volunteers caring for green spaces and/or interested in protecting land in the trust and external partners to facilitate growth. The successful candidate has a wide range of skills, operates as a key leader in the organization and works closely with the Executive Director.

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Program Director has responsibility for developing, motivating, and leading the program team. Through this, the role will lead Baltimore Green Space’s strategic execution of preservation and forest programming, including supervision of the Forest Program Manager, Preservation Manager, and all of their program deliverables. Directs both managers who provide technical, educational, and outreach support to site leaders, as well as by ensuring the success of BGS workshops and events to increase outreach. This role requires setting team goals and establishing a sustainable programs team. Works with the team in meeting organizational goals to increase neighborhood participation in garden and community forest activities; and builds a network of partners supporting the garden and forest stewardship network. Supportive administrative work, such as high level technical assistance to forest and preserved sites, monitoring annual and scientific reporting for garden and forest data, and leading regular service may be required.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee and project manage Baltimore Green Space’s environmental programs and program staff, which include: special projects, events, data monitoring, and partnerships.

In partnership with the Executive Director, set department strategy, adjust as needed to implement long-range plans, goals, objectives and schedules for each core program that align with agency mission and vision.

Collaborate with Program Managers to provide curriculum development support to ensure Baltimore Green Space’s programs align with the organizational mission and industry standards for environmental programming to ensure high quality experiences for our participants and provide observational feedback to managers.

With oversight from the Executive Director, coordinate and collaborate with the Program Managers to oversee and administer community partnerships, including (but not limited to): scheduling, creating and carrying out agreements and collaborations, recruiting, developing curriculum, and reviewing equipment and/or supply needs.

Support the maintenance and collection of all program related record keeping including but not limited to: site evaluation, site leader and volunteer assistance, event monitoring and attendance records.

Work with the Executive Director to develop case statements for core programs, complete program reports, and cultivate new opportunities.

Create a framework for program recruitment and oversee the program team in implementing a successful recruitment strategy.

Manage department and program budgets; provide input on annual department budgets, support program purchases.

Represent Baltimore Green Space at community events, partnership meetings, conferences, and recruitment opportunities.

STAFF SUPERVISION

Monitor and review work plans and timesheets of all program staff.

Facilitate weekly mentor/instructor meetings with direct reports.

Collaborate with Program Managers to facilitate weekly program meetings.

Meet with programming partners site leaders/program managers to address issues for interns/staff.

Support staff in streamlining project management methods and establishing cross program organizational methods to be implemented.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION:

Assist the Executive Director in special projects.

Manage all program documents on the organization's server and archive all critical materials including: liability and registration forms, demographic info, curriculum, photographs, evaluation, and final media products.

Process stipend requests for non-salaried program participants.

Work with staff to identify Professional Development needs (event management, crisis resolution, anti-racism/anti-oppression trainings, organization strategies, etc.) and implement appropriately.

PROGRAM REPORTING

Submit timely and accurate program and evaluation reports to the Operations Manager for grant reporting purposes.

Submit bi-monthly program updates with photographs on each program to the ED for the Board Report.

Work with the Executive Director to implement the communications and public relations strategy, and develop methods by which to best communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and achievements to diverse audiences.

Attend program events quarterly to build relationships with staff, students and partner sites.

HUMAN RESOURCES

In partnership with the Executive Director and Program Managers, hire, and onboard necessary program staff, interns, and volunteers.

In collaboration with the Operations Manager, ensure all program staff and volunteers receive orientation and training, and that required paperwork is completed.

Work with the Executive Director and Operations Manager to address and mediate HR concerns between program staff as needed.

Manage any site leader, client or other partner issues that arise, respond appropriately, and resolve all conflicts in a timely manner with professionalism and tact.

Review and submit incident report forms to the Executive Director.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

This full-time exempt salaried position offers a starting compensation package totaling $60,000 - $65,000 annually, depending on education and years of professional experience. QUALIFICATIONS

4+ years of progressive experience in environmental programs, program administration, and experience with nonprofit management.

Minimum 3 years’ experience with project management.

Proven effectiveness in managing a team and environmental education programs.

Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.

Thrives leading collaboratively and executing a shared team vision.

Ability to implement efficiencies to improve work processes.

Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely to the Executive Director.

Understanding of gardening, community gardening, and/or forest ecology.

Value and/or advocate for protections of green spaces and the environment.

Ability to compile financial and operational data and to analyze charts and reports and statistical and budgetary statements.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizational partners, community, and business groups.

Experience with print and web communication.

Experience with grant writing and reporting.

Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Experience with MailChimp (or similar), WordPress, Canva, and Flickr.

Salesforce experience a plus.
