Description
The Director of Change Order and Claims Management reports to the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and will be an integral member of the finance and operations organization. This individual will be engaged in the ongoing review of complex projects, claims, disputed change orders, identifying early warning signs of problem projects and will participate in the implementation and enforcement of Corporate objectives. This individual will be responsible for providing accurate and timely analysis as needed by Executive Management, and will be active in the identification, monitoring and mitigation of risks impacting the organization. As part of a dynamic management team, the position will also interact with business unit and segment leadership, corporate executives, and outside professional advisors. This person will be an agent of change.
Develop early warning indicators of projects at risk of new or growing costs in excess (unbilled receivable) positions and work with segment and business unit executives to mitigate the risk.
Establish and manage a suite of key monthly/quarterly reports that provide critical financial and operational information and make actionable recommendations to executive management.
An advanced knowledge of project job costs and controls.
Knowledge of various types of quantum analysis.
Experience in the preparation and review of quantum claims and demonstrable ability in assessing and analyzing the damages claimed due to delay and disruption related impacts and/or other events causing increased costs.
The ability to review technical and non-technical documentation (job cost reports and budget information, construction schedules, engineering drawing, progress reports, correspondence, etc.) to identify key issues and details.
The ability to review large datasets using multiple analytical methods and tools to identify trends, anomalies and other details.
Experience in the analysis of loss of productivity claims.
Experience in analyzing delay damages costs and areas of construction cost growth.
The ability to clearly and concisely present findings to executive management.
Experience in drafting expert reports, presentations, and other deliverables to executive management.
Assist in the review of contractual documents to ensure appropriate administration of change order and/or dispute notifications to project customers.
Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, project controls or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
Industry credentials preferred but not required (e.g., Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS)).
10+ years of experience working in a relevant construction project management, scheduling, or cost controls capacity.
Strong skills using relevant software tools: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
Ability to travel as needed (generally under 25% but may vary).
Possesses excellent analytical, organizational and abstract reasoning skills; has a natural ability for being detail oriented and accurate with numbers and reporting.
Possesses a proven ability to meet hard deadlines.
Has an ability to iteratively discuss financial results and assumptions with executive management in a respectful, efficient and confident manner.
Is a problem solver and has the ability to summarize and present reporting results, including explanations and variance analysis. Highly collaborative and perceptive and shows prudent analysis in problem solving.
Results oriented with ability to demonstrate good judgment.
Strong ability to plan and organize multiple projects and tasks under strict deadlines.
Strong written and oral communication skills, excellent soft-skills and ability to motivate and influence all levels of management.
Depending upon work experience this position may be titled Vice President of Change Order and Claims Management.
Expected salary range for this position is $250,000 - $300,000 depending upon experience.
