Description
Almaden Country Day School seeks a dynamic, engaging, flexible, and energetic individual to become the Assistant Head of Elementary. This individual needs to be a student-centered leader with interpersonal and organizational skills to manage a multi-tiered workflow, while supporting the ACDS mission of “discovering the gifts in every child.”
The Assistant Head of Elementary will support the Head of Elementary in managing the academic, socio-emotional, and operational aspects of the elementary school for grades 1-5. This role involves fostering a positive learning environment, supporting teachers, engaging with parents, and ensuring the implementation of the school’s curriculum and educational goals.
The Assistant Head of Elementary is part of the instructional support team (IS) and wider administrative team at ACDS, reporting directly to the Head of Elementary, in a leadership culture that is motivated, upbeat, collaborative, solution-oriented, hardworking, and fun-loving.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Support:
Assist the Head of Elementary in developing and implementing school policies, procedures, and educational programs.
Curriculum Development:
Collaborate with teachers to enhance curriculum delivery and ensure alignment with educational standards.
Positive Discipline:
In collaboration with the Instructional Support team and our teachers, support implementation of Positive Discipline and SEL tools across the school.
Use behavior interventions and conflict resolution to help with the social-emotional development of students across the elementary and middle school divisions of the school.
Liaise with teachers, students, and families, as needed, to support students on their journey; maintain records of their progress.
Staff Development:
Support professional development initiatives for teachers, including training workshops and mentoring programs.
Student and Learning Support:
Monitor student progress and well-being, addressing behavioral and academic concerns in collaboration with teachers and parents.
Parent Engagement:
Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, school events, and educational resources.
Administrative Duties:
Assist in scheduling, budget management, and resource allocation to support the elementary program.
School Events:
Help organize and participate in school events, including parent-teacher conferences, open houses, all-school gatherings, and community outreach activities.
Data Analysis:
Utilize student performance data to inform instructional practices and improve student outcomes.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in elementary education; leadership experience is a plus.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents
Proficient in educational technology and data analysis
Knowledge of current educational trends and best practices
Personal Attributes:
Passionate about education and child development
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to inspire and motivate students and staff
Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment
Child-centered, progressive instructional orientation
Experience in an educational setting similar to ACDS: student-centered, developmental philosophy, PK-8, range of student abilities
Proficiency and comfort with relevant educational technology
High degree of organizational proficiency in maintaining data collection systems
Experience with Diversity, Equity Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) work
Highly collaborative leadership style
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and propensity for regular and open communications
Willingness and commitment to being available for meetings and other school needs after school hours to support students and families
Preferred Qualifications and Qualities:
Prior experience as a school administrator
Prior experience in instructional coaching, curriculum development, and/or developing, implementing, organizing, and leading school initiatives
Prior experience working to support student activities and events
