ABOUT GIRLS 4 SCIENCE

Girls 4 Science is the only free, year-round, non-selective out-of-school-time STEM program for girls in the Chicago region. The mission of Girls 4 Science is to enrich the lives of girls through early exposure to the study of science, technology, engineering and math and women of color practicing in STEM fields; and through hands-on problem-based learning and mentorship for careers in STEM fields.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Girls 4 Science is seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join our team as the Director of Operations & Programs. This person will be responsible for numerous aspects of operations including Board and Committee support, the quarterly newsletter and annual report, and for developing and managing all aspects of the Saturday STEM Academy. The ideal candidate will have experience in non-profit organizations and education and curriculum development, have a passion for science and working with young girls, and experience in and familiarity with STEM fields. This position reports to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

Attend all Board and Committee meetings.

Prepare Agenda and Meeting Materials.

Take, prepare and distribute minutes of each meeting.

Write quarterly newsletter after the end of each Saturday STEM Academy session.

Write annual report.

Work with Executive Director to develop annual budget.

Program

Primary responsibilities include student recruitment and enrollment, curriculum development, materials management, program instruction and evaluation.

Develop STEM curriculum, supplemental materials and engaging STEM-related experiments and activities for the Saturday STEM Academy.

Ensure curriculum content is scientifically accurate and age-appropriate.

Teach or participate in the weekly Saturday STEM Academy class at one of the sites.

Plan and implement yearly Student Showcase and Student Recognition and Awards program.

Proactively recruit students to participate in the program and manage student application process.

Maintain clear and effective communication with parents, students, staff and faculty.

Document student assessment, attendance, and maintain effective systems for tracking and evaluating data.

Recruit, hire, mentor, and supervise part-time Program Coordinators and volunteers.

Build program awareness through social media, web, and print materials.

Prepare report for quarterly Board of Directors meetings and annual program budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Education or STEM-related field, Business, Non-profit Management.

Experience developing and implementing STEM programs and curriculum.

Experience working with youth.

Proven experience in nonprofit management or a similar role.

Strong leadership and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
