The Lead Network Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing deployments that span Visa’s private data center and public cloud environments with an emphasis on infrastructure as code network connectivity enablement for Visa’s Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure public cloud presence.
We are looking for a hands-on individual with extensive knowledge in networking, automation, and infrastructure as code technology including knowledge of applicable public cloud processes, methodologies, standards, products, and frameworks. The ideal candidate would assist in the definition of the architecture, capturing functional requirements, preparing estimates, and developing technical solutions for Visa’s foundational cloud services.
This role offers the opportunity to combine architecture definition with hands-on development work as part of providing guidance to project teams on design and deployment related activities.
The successful candidate will work with Operations and Infrastructure, Cybersecurity and Product Development teams to define network solutions for hybrid cloud deployment solutions that will enable the use of Hybrid cloud infrastructure to meet the challenges of technology, regulatory, security, and competitive conditions. The Cloud Network Engineer is a technologist with demonstrated experience and interest in networking, public cloud, workload migration from private to public cloud, cloud native design and application transformation/modernization. The candidate should have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills to effectively share your knowledge.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Network Engineering and is a key role within Visa’s O&I Network Engineering organization.
Essential Functions
The Lead Network Cloud Engineer provides senior technical leadership in several network engineering areas of expertise and is responsible for developing and executing new initiatives to drive growth, reduce cost, increase reliability and increase global synergy for Visa’s networks. (S)/He will collaborate with other functional and technology leaders to define and execute business priorities.
Key responsibilities for the role include senior technology leadership in network engineering, network automation and public cloud environments:
Contribute to the network architecture strategy for Visa’s Private/Hybrid/Public Cloud adoption including long-term network architecture scenarios in collaboration with stakeholders, partners, and customers.
Collaborate with Cloud, Systems, and Cyber Security Architects to assist in driving our public cloud strategy and standards.
Architect, design, and deliver innovative solutions to enable public cloud connectivity with Private DCs.
Develop standard automation templates for deployment of public cloud infrastructure and platform components.
Use cloud-native approaches for solutions based on business goals, objectives, and requirements, while understanding integration with legacy solutions.
Design security into all projects and processes for design, implementation, and operational stages.
Design solutions that are secure, scalable, repeatable, and highly available while efficient.
Provide knowledge transfer to engineering and operations teams on architecture, design, and delivery of public cloud solutions.
Actively participate in communities/forums/guilds on Cloud computing.
Drive software development for Visa’s Infrastructure as Code (IAC) efforts across Private/Hybrid/Multi Cloud environments.
Influence enterprise technology selection and define High Level Design documentation for key technology initiatives.
Collaborate with network architecture, cyber security, and operations teams. Making recommendations on next-generation capabilities to support new business opportunities.
Drive coordination, consensus, and execution to mitigate cyber risk issues and emerging threats in such a dynamic environment.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
QualificationsBasic Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD.
Demonstrated experience with hands-on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) development and deployment in Hybrid Cloud (AWS, Azure and GCP) deployments, network architecture, engineering or development experience in network automation frameworks, public cloud infrastructure as code frameworks and solutions for service provider or large enterprise networks.
4+ years’ experience in cloud networking (public, private and hybrid/multi cloud) technologies, particularly in the context of AWS, Azure and GCP. Demonstrated hands-on experience in developing Terraform and Terragrunt frameworks for automated hybrid cloud deployments.
2+ years of proven experience with GCP and or Azure including design and implementation of enterprise level solutions.
Demonstrated experience with open-source infrastructure as code software and automation software development tools including Terraform, Terragrunt, env0, Ansible, Python, Chef, Puppet or Salt.
A proven background and recent experience in modern networking architecture practice including experience in network design/operations for campus, DC and WAN environments leveraging leading networking technologies across multi-vendor deployments (Arista, Cisco, Juniper, Dell).
Experience with networking tooling applications and networking ancillary services.
Experience with networking best practices, in particular networking security best practices, firewalling/VPN experience.
Advanced certifications a plus: CCDE, CCIE/CCNP (R&S or SP/Security), AWS certified advanced networking, AWS certified solution arch., MS-Azure certified solutions arch. etc.
Demonstrated ability to architect and implement public cloud landing zone (foundation service) for different types of application.
Expert knowledge of GCP and/or Azure cloud infrastructure and platform services.
Experience in cloud architecture, engineering, or development including hands-on professional experience in public cloud infrastructure frameworks and solutions for large enterprise networks.
Excellent understanding of public cloud network, compute, storage, management and governance services preferably in Azure.
Understanding of public cloud database, IAM (Identity and Access Management), Data security, preferably in Azure.
Demonstrated experience with open-source infrastructure as code (IaC) software and automation software development tools (e.g., Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible, ARM/Bicep).
5+ years of experience in multiple public cloud providers including Azure, GCP, AWS.
5+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise level technologies implementing cloud native and hybrid solutions.
3+ years of hands-on experience with container technologies in a production environment (e.g. Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes) and related ecosystem products.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
