Job Details:PurposeLeads the development and implementation of college-wide strategies to cultivate and expand corporate and research partnerships for the Cockrell School of Engineering and manages the Industry and Research Relations team.

Responsibilities

Provides leadership and direction to the Industry and Research Relations office in the Cockrell School of Engineering. Establishes and maintains a viable network of high impact strategic partners. Engages with faculty across campus to identify research areas where UT Austin is world-class and to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration.

Leads the development of multi-investigator and multi-disciplinary major research initiatives for the CSE.

Collaborates with Discovery to Impact to support the successful implementation of research contracts including Master Research Agreements.

Supports federal agency and national lab engagement by working with the Vice President for Research office and facilitating campus visits. Manages research exchanges, faculty workshops, and other corporate events.

Liaises with all Engineering departments and other Colleges, Schools and Units across campus to present a holistic approach and coordinate the delivery of multi-unit partnerships.

Manages a team of professionals focused on developing partnerships with external organizations.

Offers guidance to senior leadership on engagement strategies and participates in relevant committee assignments aligned with Cockrell’s strategic plan.

Covers other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related field.

A minimum of five years of experience in relationship management, business development, or a similar area.

Experience collaborating with technology companies, clients, professional organizations, or venture funding entities.

Proven ability to manage professional relationships with C-suite executives and high-level corporate representatives.

Experience in people management and team development.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong service-oriented approach.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, in a disciplined and sequential manner, to achieve specific investment goals.

Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years in marketing, sales or fundraising roles.

Experience in creating and implementing business strategies.

Experience in a higher education environment, particularly with a STEM focus.

Experience with or working knowledge of the UT Austin fundraising environment.

Working Conditions

Position is located in Austin, Texas.

Work is performed in a standard office environment, with dynamic work conditions and frequent interruptions.

Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation.

Repetitive use of standard office equipment.

Periodic travel is required.

Work outside standard office hours may be required on occasion, including evenings and weekends, to manage peak periods and key deadlines.

Position is 100% on site.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
