The Sr. Communications Coordinator provides project leadership for communications initiatives (e.g., digital, publication, and social media projects) generated by the Department of Neurology and associated divisions, projects, and programs. Manage specific communications projects across the entire department and ensure that projects meet departmental goals. Serves as the primary internal communications editor, determining content strategy for email newsletters and announcements to support brand position.

Specific Responsibilities:

Manage communications initiatives for department, ranging from web communications, content development, graphic design, publication management, and social media.

Promote the department’s reputation to the academic community and prospective trainees/faculty/staff through proactive and reactive media relations.

Ensure that media coverage is amplified across appropriate department-owned channels.

Draft content (e.g., news stories, event recaps, website copy, social media posts) for department-owned channels, as needed.

Lead the development of effective communications strategies and initiatives and manage projects, as assigned.

Create marketing, communications and educational activities, events, presentations, content, etc. that meet departmental goals.

Coordinate the development of marketing collateral such as programs, posters, invitations, etc.

Market & promote department using advertising, broadcast email, websites, social media, etc.

Provide strategic leadership on visual representation, manage audio and video projects, and create graphics for social media and web.

Analyze information and recommend metrics to determine success.

Drive weekly and monthly media reporting and measurement aligned with the strategic goals.

Create associated reports.

Serve as the primary communications editor for the department, determining content strategy for e-newsletters and announcements.

Serve as marketing liaison to communications staff members in Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern Medicine, other university departments and programs.

Assess that communication meets visual and content brand requirements.

Produce, test, and deploy specific communications tactics, such as email newsletters.

Review and approve creative, marketing copy, proofs, et. al.

May supervise a temporary employee or intern.

Other duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as communications/marketing, liberal arts, communication, journalism, healthcare, public health, new media, or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

1-2 years of experience developing and maintaining web content, including experience with primary ownership of content planning, creation, and maintenance.

1-2 years of experience in a marketing, communications, or public relations role.

Exceptional fluency in MS Office suite (including Power Point), English-language grammar and Associated Press style rules.

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)

1-2 years of experience working in a health care, non-profit, university, or related setting.

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

2+ years of experience with website, email development, and social media tools.

Experience using CRM tools.
