The Director, Publicity will work closely with the Vice President, Publicity to play an active and integral role in crafting and implementing key communications strategies across ABC Entertainment’s scripted series publicity portfolio. This person will be the key publicity contact for the slate of scripted comedy and drama series and will oversee the team of publicists executing communications strategies for day-to-day campaigns. Additional responsibilities include overseeing trade and consumer announcement strategies and crisis communications. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, create and implement strategy, craft interesting pitch angles and make quick informed decisions as necessary for the nature of scripted programming. Clear and effective communication, strong writing skills and attention to detail are crucial to achieve success in this position.
Responsibilities:
Work alongside the Vice President, Publicity to manage a team of publicists and oversee development and execution of press campaigns for ABC Entertainment’s diverse slate of scripted drama and comedy series. Campaign oversight includes: communications strategy, talent relations, budget management and crisis communications.
Serve as the main point of contact for publicity needs for scripted programming executives and studio partners. Collaborate with internal partners to develop and execute strategies to promote projects and initiatives, including but not limited to: Original Programming, Business Affairs, Production, Marketing, Photography and more.
Facilitate collaboration with other lines of business across The Walt Disney Company, including Parks & Resorts, Studios, music, consumer products, and more when relevant.
Establish and uphold relationships with media, talent, talent managers, talent publicists, executive producers and executives.
Some work travel may be required.
Basic Qualifications:
8-10+ years experience in public relations or related field
Entertainment industry experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong team player with the ability to interface with talent and executives
Social media savvy
Strong time management and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
People management experience, with success developing and coaching strong team members
Talent relations experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
