Music Director, Part Time (10 hours per week), to begin immediately

Location:

St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Ithaca, NY

Rates of pay per the fee schedule below:

Music Performances Fee Schedule:

Organ Playing Mass: $100.00 per Mass (3 masses per week)

Choir Rehearsal/prep/office: $25.00 per hour (7 hours per week)

Organ Wedding: $150.00 per event as needed

Organ Funeral: $125.00 per event as needed

Typically, this position will require approximately 10 hours per week, with additional hours for Holy Days of Obligation, other scheduled Masses, special services, and events throughout the year.

The Music Director will report to the parish Pastor.

Specific Responsibilities:

Provides primary accompaniment for the parish and directs rehearsals beforehand.

Responsible for providing advance notice and finding a substitute in case of absence.

Directs weekly rehearsals –

every Thursday hold rehearsal 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the choir.

Helps to create a positive inclusive community that encourages additional members to join music ministry.

Selects appropriate liturgical music for weekend Masses and special services.

Takes primary responsibility for setting up/taking down microphones and audio equipment before and after Masses.

Keeps choir supplies, cabinet, and sound system clean and organized.

Communicates regularly with all involved in the music ministry program.

Masses:

Saturday Mass: arrive at 4:00 p.m. to prep, play at 5:00 p.m. Mass.

Sunday Mass: arrive at 8:00 a.m. to prep, play at 9:00 a.m. Mass.

Sunday Mass: arrive at 10:30 a.m. to prep, play at 11:00 a.m. Mass.

Note: During the spring and fall on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., practice with children choir.

Qualifications:

Good knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy and the musical heritage of the Church.

Proficiency as a pianist, and as an organist with acquaintance in organ literature.

Proficiency as a choral director for adults and children with acquaintance in choral literature.

Necessary Skills:

Ability to play piano and organ proficiently.

Works collaboratively with all.

Comfortable working without direct supervision.

Ability to direct an ensemble.

Reliability in maintaining scheduled hours and communicating scheduling conflicts in a timely fashion.
