BJ’s is looking for a motivated, energetic and strategic Manager of External Communications to join our corporate communications team. The manager is a proven storyteller with significant experience in traditional public relations, media, influencer marketing and deep knowledge of social media platforms. The manager must have extensive experience in understanding and leading public relations for a corporation or large retailer, identifying opportunities to secure media coverage, activating community and corporate events and ideating strong engagement and storytelling to create brand loyalty and drive the support of sales. Experience in corporate and crisis communications and proficient in executive writing is a must. Experience with social management tools is a must.

Major tasks, responsibilities and key accountabilities

Oversee day-to-day media relations and social media operations including monitoring media hits, content planning, creative execution, influencer programming and social media channel calendaring.

Support key business priorities and engage members through brand-building in traditional public relations and social strategies.

Plan and manage implementation of integrated public relations, influencer and social media plans that support a wide range of consumer-facing initiatives.

Manage and help scale influencer programming and content with a focus on driving engagement, consideration and sales.

Develop and implement comprehensive external communication strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives.

Collaborate with senior leadership to craft key messages and ensure they are consistently conveyed across platforms.

Monitor and adapt communication strategies to respond to market trends, stakeholder expectations and any emerging requests.

Draft, review and distribute press releases, media kits, speeches and other communication materials.

Ensure all external communications are clear, accurate and aligned with the company’s brand and messaging.

Manage the brand’s social media presence and oversee creative development and execution of content.

Develop and execute seasonal and category specific campaigns, including influencer, social and media relations.

Lead influencer programs for priority categories.

Collaborate with partners in merchandising, marketing, membership, real estate and development and digital marketing to deliver external communications programming aligned with business priorities.

Manage analytics using data-driven insights to refine and elevate communication strategies and improve outreach efforts.

Oversee the management of the company’s visual and verbal brand identity in external-facing materials.

Identify trends in public relations and social media that can help deliver against strategic objectives.

Keep a strong pulse on emerging technology and platforms.

Support overall corporate communications team and objectives in various areas including public relations, social media, community affairs, internal communications and crisis communications.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in communications, marketing or related field required.

5 - 10 years of professional experience in public relations, external communications, influencer marketing and social media.

Strong analytical skills, social listening and reporting capabilities.

Proficient experience in crisis communications, corporate affairs, social content creation, media buying across social channels, social strategy development and influencer marketing.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Proven storyteller and effective communicator.

Highly collaborative with internal and external partners.

Excellent writing skills and public speaking capabilities.

Job Conditions

Available to travel to media engagements throughout BJ’s current and future club locations as well as BJ’s clubs for media and on-site activations and community events (20% travel).

Hybrid in-office three days a week.

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $109,000.00.
