HR/Employee Relations Director

The Human Resource/Employee Relations Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department.

Oversees the daily workflow of the department.

Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.

Handles discipline and termination of employees per company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Collaborates with Senior Executive Leadership to define the organization's long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through talent management.

Identifies key performance indicators for the organization's human resource and talent management functions; assesses the organization's success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.

Provides professional expertise and support in the design, development, and implementation of the talent review process required to achieve business goals and results in creating an internal bench of top talent.

Researches, develops, and implements competitive compensation, benefits, performance appraisal, and employee incentive programs.

Provides guidance and leadership to the human resource team; assists with resolution of human resource, compensation, and benefits questions, concerns, and issues.

Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.

Maintains knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.

Drafts and implements the organization's staffing budget, and the budget for the human resource department.

Primary contact to investigate and resolve HR inquiries directed from various business unit clients, union representatives, and HR partners (e.g., Sr. HR Specialists, HR Generalists, Legal, Labor Relations, etc.).

Analyzes and confers expertise relating to HR inquiries. Responsible for Tier 1 support, providing initial investigative guidance.

Recommends direction and confers expertise to various business unit clients on HR issues, policies and practices, and non-management Collective Bargaining agreements.

Exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Primary liaison for employees in resolving HR issues.

Counsels managers on employee-related matters to ensure consistency across business units. Participates in professional development and networking conferences and events.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master's or law degree highly preferred.

At least ten years of human resource management experience is required, with strategic, talent management, employee relations, and/or business development experience highly preferred.

Previous experience in capturing metrics and producing various employment reports.

SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
