General Description of the PositionThe Associate Director of Student Engagement and Leadership Development is an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader who provides a shared vision for student engagement on campus and within the community. The Associate Director of Student Engagement works within the Office of Student Experience (OSE) to provide quality educational development, social experiences and leadership programming that supports the mission of the University.

Associate Director of Student Engagement is responsible for comprehensive leadership education, training, and development; campus-wide civic learning and democratic engagement efforts; community outreach and service; oversee specific organizations: all Greek Life organizations, Women’s Senate, Men’s Council; provides an Alternative Service spring break; oversight and organization development for more than 100 registered student organizations; operation of the campus-wide online registration/service platform; and vision for and partial management of the Student Center.

This position must have knowledge of current standards, best practices and local, state and national regulations in student programming, advising, supervision and management. This position will embrace the responsibility to develop partnerships that enhance the student learning experience and enrich the communities in which they interact.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Coordinates all undergraduate student organization trainings and workshops with an aim to grow and develop organizations with best practices in the field of Student Affairs involving technology and other tools for increased engagement and retention.

Serve as primary liaison to the Anthology/Engage platform. Responsible for new and returning student organization/club recognition and registration process occurring in the fall and spring semester. This will include training students, staff, and faculty on utilizing the platform while ensuring student organizations are in compliance with all relevant state, national and university policies, rules, and regulations.

Provide overall direction, leadership, strategic thinking, and visioning for fraternity and sorority life. Directly responsible for advising, training, membership intake, programming, etc. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies as it relates to higher education and fraternity and sorority life.

Chair, participate and/or collaborate on University-wide events such as Welcome Week, Organization Fair, New Student Orientation, “I Love DSU Week,” Homecoming, Spring Fling, holidays, awareness, community service, civic services, alternative breaks and outreach.

Facilitate leadership programming for students including lyceum series, leadership conference, community service, civic engagements, and the Hornet Student Leadership Awards Banquets.

Inspire a shared vision for the Alternative Service Break program.

Oversee multiple student accounts, budgets and maintain transactions/receipts.

Supports the OSELD departmental assessment and student engagement data reporting.

Assists with management of various social media engagement platforms with the goal of effective student organization event promotion.

Assist with the management of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Center.

In partnership with unit personnel and other key university stakeholders, develop protocols to ensure appropriate risk assessment and liability reduction.

Provide leadership for campus-community outreach and collaboration, the Kent County Board of Elections, and local non-profit agencies.

Serve on university and community committees.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualification Standards

Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Public Administration or related degree and 3+ years professional experience working with students in a higher education setting or related experience, with a focus on leadership development and civic engagement.

3+ years in a supervisory/management position.
