Overview:Background on Liberty

Liberty is a division within Suffolk providing a wide range of construction and equipment services. As a self-performing contractor, we meet clients’ strategic construction needs through six specialized divisions: general requirements, concrete, equipment rentals, all access, warehousing, and concrete. Liberty is

most

concentrated in Boston and Florida today, although we have a presence in all of Suffolk Construction’s locations (California, Texas, New York, and more). Liberty has a corporate staff of approximately 100 people today, and oversees a craft worker staff of approximately 1000. The majority of Liberty’s work is on Suffolk Construction jobs today; we also do some work for other general contractors. Liberty aspires to grow its self-perform business meaningfully; likely in the Northeast and Florida markets in the near-term.

Overview of the roleThe President of Liberty provides oversight as well as strategic leadership and direction nationally in support of Liberty’s long-range goals, strategies, and initiatives. The Liberty President serves as a strong leader of this standalone business unit, leading all our different regions and services. In addition, the Liberty President collaborates excellently with leaders throughout Suffolk Construction.

The ideal candidate will have experience either in running a specialty contractor or in a self-perform arm of a general contractor. He or she will have deep experience and skills in managing a hard-bid business. He or she will be able to manage a national business with many moving parts. The candidate should be both

technically

skilled and have the

leadership and business experience

to bring the right combination of hard and soft skills. This role should be based in the Northeast (Boston area) or Florida.

Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

Set the business direction and strategy nationally: Develop and implement Liberty’s strategic plan for self-perform services

Drive and execute Liberty’s business plan overall, in specific specialty services, and in specific regions

Serve as the face of Liberty nationally, both inside and outside Suffolk, building the company’s brand and relationship network

Oversee a Safety-first culture in all aspects of the business

Manage Equipment Fleet, Maintenance, and buy/sell strategies

Ensure Talent Development, and a Best Place to Work environment is achieved in all regional operations

Hold accountability for cost management, financial reporting, and ultimate P&L for the business

Work Acquisition and Client Management:

Actively build Liberty’s regional network of relationships with developers, partners, and community leaders

Ensure client satisfaction through formal and informal channels

Identify and cultivate new client relationships

Provide guidance and direction to Regional COOs and VPs of Operations on project pursuit strategies and project execution strategies

Ensure pipeline development and tracking is accurate and consistent with the business plan

P&L Management:

Oversee and approve P&L forecasting and projections

Ensure revenue and income projections are achieved

Complete G&A planning and management

Ensure risk management strategies are followed

Monitor regional cash flow

Review and sign contracts to prescribed limits

Coordinate legal matters

Qualifications:

20+ years in the construction/management services industry

Engineering (Preferably Mechanical), Mathematics, S-EM & MBA Business certificate or an equivalent experience preferred.

Experience in managing a large labor force in an at-risk environment.

General knowledge of Engineered Systems for Scaffolding, Hoists, Lifts, and Cranes.

Energetic, enthusiastic self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail.

Outstanding team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
