Rooted in the Mission and focused on San Francisco, MEDA’s mission is to strengthen low and moderate-income Latino families by promoting economic equity and social justice through asset building and community development. MEDA is advancing strategies to create asset-building opportunities for San Francisco’s Latino families and in the Mission District through: (1) our core, integrated Asset Building Programs related to housing, financial capability, workforce development, business development, and tax preparation; (2) serving as a backbone agency to advance educational achievement and family economic success through the Mission Promise Neighborhood 2-generation approach; (3) creating and preserving affordable housing and commercial real estate in the Mission District through Community Real Estate; (4) providing access to capital and innovative financial products through Fondo Adelante; and (5) Policy & Advocacy efforts that support our mission.
POSITION OVERVIEW
MEDA is growing our leadership team with the addition of a Chief Program Officer (CPO).
Reporting to the CEO, the CPO will oversee MEDA’s client-serving programs, including its
Family Economic Success programs,
Mission Promise Neighborhood – School Based and Family Support Services , and Fondo Adelante - our CDFI and Business Development initiative.
Leaders
of each of these areas of work will report to the CPO. The CPO will work across these departments and with MEDA’s Chief Strategy Officer, Community Real Estate Development team, and administrative functions to ensure an integrated and coordinated approach to MEDA’s strategies. The CPO will be a key member of MEDA’s Executive Team and be responsible for driving innovation, program integration, and supporting high-performing staff and programs. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader with a strong racial equity lens and lived experience in the Latino community. This leader will have the ability to connect big-picture strategies with implementation details to guide our teams toward meaningful results for our community. MEDA’s CPO will be an excellent communicator, skilled in strategic and programmatic planning, a strong team builder, and savvy with sustainability planning and fundraising.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Design & Development
Supervise Directors of 3 key MEDA programmatic departments, including
Mission Promise Neighborhood
– School Based and Family Support Services , Family Economic Success Programs, and Fondo Adelante (CDFI) & Business Development, providing leadership and oversight, coaching, support with staff development, and program management.
Support Program
Leaders
with program development, scaling, and ongoing innovation, including troubleshooting programmatic issues, staying up to date on best practices in the field and identifying strategic growth opportunities and areas where MEDA can better serve its clients or meet community needs.
In partnership with
Program Leaders , provide leadership in strategic planning & annual Action Plans, ensuring program needs are reflected in plans, staffing structures and capacity are assessed, and opportunities for integration are identified and operationalized.
Provide strategic business planning support. Through annual and ongoing planning processes, ensure that MEDA programs are addressing and forecasting growth and capacity needs and matching planned activities with available and expected resources.
Provide leadership for new programs & initiatives, community response efforts, and special projects that involve multiple programmatic departments.
Initially, this position will be responsible for the development of a new initiative at MEDA to create cooperative business models with immigrant worker-owners. This will include the design and implementation of a curriculum and associated systems for a cross-departmental initiative between MEDA’s business development and workforce development programs.
Cross-departmental Integration
Lead service integration between departments, ensuring that programs and systems are designed such that MEDA clients can maximize access to a comprehensive continuum of services, strategies, and initiatives.
Working closely with Program
Leaders
and Evaluation team, ensure that MEDA’s programmatic data is systematically being captured and accurately telling MEDA’s impact story.
Participate in the fundraising process with development and
Program Leaders , including funder conversations, grant and budget design, and development as needed.
Represent MEDA’s programmatic work externally at conferences, convenings, and meetings with funders and various stakeholders as needed.
Working closely with
Program Leaders
and Compliance & Risk Management team, ensure accountability for department-level implementation of risk management and compliance systems.
Working closely with fundraising/communications, provide leadership in cohesively telling MEDA’s impact story for its programs to staff and external stakeholders.
Community & Organizational Leadership
Actively participate in MEDA’s Management Team ( Vice Presidents
+ C-team) and Executive Team (C-team), representing programs and ensuring strong alignment between programs and other organizational departments.
Provide thought leadership and advocacy related to MEDA’s programs & services through written blogs, presentations at conferences, and community forums.
Represent MEDA in Mission District neighborhood, city-wide, and national interest groups and coalitions and nurture strategic, collaborative partnerships with other community-based organizations, government agencies, and philanthropic partners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience leading a high-performing team, including leading teams through aligned vision, strategies, and goals - an excellent people manager and mentor who is a collaborative leader.
Excellent project manager skilled in developing and implementing work plans with timelines, deliverables, roles, and responsibilities amongst large teams.
Strategic thinker with the ability to see both the big picture and the details and the ability to navigate a broad range of complex sets of work comfortably.
Entrepreneurial approach with the ability to manage change and lead teams through the creation of new and/or modified systems, strategies, and programs.
10+ years experience in a leadership position in one or more areas of MEDA’s programmatic work, with a proven track record of leadership in a high-performing organization.
Experience managing budgets upwards of $1M.
Experience with Results Based Accountability and/or Collective Impact is desirable.
Strong racial equity lens and lived experience with and strong familiarity with Latino and immigrant communities.
Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
