WSP is currently initiating a search for a full time
Assistant Vice President, Mechanical Engineer- HVAC
for our
Boston, MA
office. Be involved in projects with our Transportation and Infrastructure Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Your Impact
This position involves oversight of design of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) engineering for transit, tunnel ventilation, industrial, commercial and institutional projects. and may include the following functions:
Prepare design criteria documents, technical reports, design calculations, drawings and specifications for HVAC systems including piping and ductwork systems design, heating and cooling load calculations, design of air distribution systems, design of hydronic systems, design and layout of mechanical rooms for mechanical systems and equipment, chilled and hot water systems, constant volume and variable air volume systems, automatic temperature controls systems including direct digital controls systems.
Develop quantity take-offs and cost estimates for HVAC systems.
Writing project proposals and preparing budgets.
Serve as engineer-of-record for design documents and reports covering HVAC systems.
Provide support during construction activities.
Attend meetings with clients, agency and project team.
Tasks may also include other mechanical work such as plumbing, fire protection and other mechanical systems to support industrial equipment.
Project assignments may include, although not be limited to, transportation centers, transit maintenance facilities, parking structures, vehicular or rail tunnels, or pump stations.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and design of HVAC systems.
Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or ability to obtain license is desirable.
Must be proficient in the interpretation and application of ASHRAE Standards, and applicable building codes and energy codes.
Experience to include: preparation of: engineering reports, feasibility studies, HVAC system designs, plans & specifications, cost estimates, facilities condition assessments and surveys, construction phase services, owner’s engineer representation, supervision & mentoring of less experienced engineers, designers, and technicians.
Areas of experience should include one or more of the following categories of facilities: vehicular and rail tunnels, transit, aviation, industrial, commercial, educational, health care, or governmental.
Must be able to effectively communicate information and ideas both orally and in writing.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree.
LEED accreditation is desirable.
Engineer in Training Certification.
Prior design experience.
A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
