About this PositionThe VP of Tax assists in general day-to-day management of the Primerica Tax Department. Additionally, the position requires management of certain tax processes including insurance statutory provision preparation and reporting, GAAP provision preparation and reporting, legislative research, controversy leadership and negotiation, and income tax compliance and other department matters.
The salary for this position is up to 180k with eligibility for a variable target incentive.
Responsibilities & QualificationsStatutory Tax Provision Management
Liaise, advise, and consult with statutory reporting department on tax reporting and audits
Lead quarterly review of statutory tax provisions and financial reports
Maintain internal controls over statutory provision process
Implement new or revised statutory accounting guidance or tax legislation
Assist external auditors with company specific inquiries related to statutory tax accounting
GAAP Tax Provision Management
Quarterly review of uncertain tax positions and implement changes for new or resolved positions
Quarterly review of tax effect of share-based compensation reports and application of deduction limitations on compensation
Annually review support and prepare documentation for valuation allowances and uncertain tax positions
Annually review current/deferred breakout of tax balance sheet accounts for life insurance subsidiaries
Annually update state tax effective tax rate with return to provision adjustments
Annually review stand-alone provision and financial reports for mortgage product entity
Consult with accounting department on new or updated tax sensitive accounts
Implement tax accounting for updated GAAP guidance and prepare tax documentation for external audits
Tax Research
Research tax legislative and regulatory developments
Present recommendations and advise on tax implications
Seek and implement tax planning opportunities
Attend industry conferences and share experience and knowledge with team members
Federal and State Tax Controversy
Supervise communications with Federal and State auditors over tax controversies within established exposure limits
Coordinate delivery of document requests during audits
Negotiate resolution of controversies up to established levels of authority
Report status of audits to superiors and escalate issues appropriately
Tax Compliance and Other Department Matters
Lead quarterly review of estimated payments and communication with Treasury department
Review state income tax returns and review U.S. international compliance forms, including various other Form 1120 assistance
Lead and manage reinsurance excise tax compliance
Support accounting department with account review and investment reporting, including investment tax credits
Assist in hiring, training, and development of tax department team members and assist SVP with department matters as needed
