This position is hybrid - Tuesday - Thursday in the New York Office and Monday and Friday work from home.Business Overview:Launched in 2012, New York Life Ventures (NYLV) is a leading strategic Corporate Venture Capital unit focused on exploring new technologies, investing in and partnership with start-ups, and accelerating the pace of innovation at New York Life. The unit is comprised of three highly interconnected functions: Venture Investments, Business Development, and Innovation Services.Role Overview:The Director – Business Development role is critical to driving change throughout NYL via development of strategic partnerships between NYL business units and startups. We are seeking someone who is eager for the challenge of developing new opportunities that can drive massive impact within a large enterprise.What You'll Do:Screen relevant companies and conduct diligence. Identify opportunities for socializing relevant start-ups to business units. Lead and facilitate screen and socialization meetings.Develop a deep knowledge of NYL’s businesses and strategic priorities. Build relationships with and challenge employees to think differently by testing new startup technologies.Identify and prioritize business challenges and PoC Testing opportunities across NYL; recommend and then work to execute actions and/or solutions, as appropriate.Identify, develop, and execute on Proof of Concept (PoC) and pilots with NYL business units and startups.Partner with key functional partners (Legal, Risk, Procurement) to establish the appropriate governance and operational controls for PoCs and Pilots.Maintain project plans to capture and track the completion of key deliverables.Track progress and reporting (quantitative and qualitative) related to PoC tests. Evaluate ROI potential with business partners, and the opportunity for progression to a scaled implementation.Evaluate data to identify and communicate key trends and insights that can inform strategic decision making.Conduct in-depth research of strategic themes and help stretch innovative thinking for NYLV and throughout the enterprise.Provide feedback on the commercial applicability and strategic benefits of technologies that are tested to NYLV's Investments Team to support due-diligence processes.Represent NYLV by partnering throughout NYL to help promote innovation including participation at Company sponsored Hackathons and similar community building events.Support Head of NYLV and Head of BD on special projects such as future state whitepapers or thematic briefs.Communicates difficult concepts, and influences others to adopt a different point of view.Interprets business challenges, identifies trends and provides data-driven recommendations. Collaborates with NYLV teammates as well as with partners across the Company to solve complex problems.Provides feedback to both internal and external stakeholders throughout socialization/testing engagements is a key attribute for success.Exhibit a growth mindset and a love for learning. Have fun!What You'll Bring:You have a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant professional experience, with outstanding presentation skills, relationship management skills and excellent communication skills. Through your prior work experience, you have demonstrated the ability to manage complex projects, work cross functionally, and deliver tangible results.You have a pre-existing knowledge and a personal view of key technology themes that are impacting the financial services industry in the short, medium, and long term. You demonstrate curiosity when seeking to understand others’ point of view on technology themes and collaborate with a high degree of empathy.
