Position SummaryBESS Sr. Product Manager

We are looking for a highly motivated, driven, and passionate individual to join the IHI Terrasun Product Management team who can drive and grow our integrated BESS solutions.

As part of the product management team whose focus is to define and validate the roadmap for the company, this role focuses on enhancing existing and creating new battery energy storage hardware and software systems that create value for our customers and increase Terrasun’s market share.

This individual should be passionate about renewable energy and working in a fast-paced team environment with a dedication to customer value creation, quality, and service.

The BESS Product Manager’s responsibilities include developing a roadmap for the product portfolio and bringing together a cross-functional team to make the vision a reality.

Primary Job Functions

This is a high visibility leadership position responsible for overseeing all activities relating to strategy, planning, design, marketing, and in-life optimization of BESS products in the portfolio.

Define Terrasun’s BESS offerings with detailed market evaluations, development schedules, cost models, and business case analysis that align with strategic and financial business objectives.

Own the product roadmap and be able to translate business strategy into executable product strategy. Provide management with analyses, metrics, and reports on existing product performance and new product development. Manage product profitability and commercial success – own the business case.

Specify and oversee the research and Sales VoC imperatives needed to determine the needs and desires of customers.

Define product marketing communication objectives and coordinate with marketing teams to create the programs and collateral to market and sell a product effectively, including insights on key differentiators and messages.

Drive action throughout the organization to get products to market. Plan and carry out product launches.

Responsible for capturing and communicating high-level product requirements to functional teams and support questions during functional decomposition of product requirements into system and design requirements.

Support commercial and technical negotiations of BESS supply contracts.

Contribute to IHI Terrasun internal tools and processes for designing, proposing, and contracting BESS solutions.

Job Dimensions (skills, knowledge & abilities)

Domain experience: Experience working for a utility-scale battery storage system OEM, energy storage project developer, EPC, power conversion system OEM, or industrial power generation system integrator.

System product management experience: Experience developing, defining, launching, and delivering complete systems including hardware, software, and services.

Excellent communicator: Ability to simplify and eloquently communicate complex problems and at the same time go deep with those that have the technical expertise and desire to understand the details of the assumptions that go into each analysis.

Ability to follow and communicate, at an executive level, the requirement changes in key energy markets as well as customer project development and operational performance environments.

Demonstrated abilities: self-starting, attention to detail & accuracy, strong analysis capabilities, confidentiality, decision-making, delegation, dependability, diplomacy, and ethical behavior.

Qualifications (Education & Work Experience)

Basic Qualifications

Undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical field from an accredited college/university or relevant system product development evaluation and execution experience.

Ability to effectively work as an individual but also coordinate and work with a multi-disciplinary team is a must.

High capacity for organization and attention to detail.

Fast learner and capable of executing multiple projects and objectives.

Strong verbal and written skills.

Proficiency in MS Office Skills (Office, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desired Qualifications

MBA or equivalent preferred.

5+ years of experience in energy storage, renewable energy, or related field.

Demonstrated ability developing and launching system and/or service offerings.

3 years of system product management or program management experience.

Technical knowledge of BESS subcomponent equipment including Batteries, Power Conditioning System (PCS), Energy Management System, Power Plant Controller, SCADA, reporting, and market bidding systems.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

IHI has offices in Chicago. This position could be remote.

Position involves 20% or more travel to customer sites and conferences.

The national pay range for this role is $130,000 - $175,000 / year and is considered a Level P3 – Professional Individual Contributor role. This pay range may be slightly lower or higher based on the geographic location of the hired employee. The actual pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, and location. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may also include participation in an annual discretionary bonus.
