Directs and is responsible for the performance of Five Below’s distribution and warehouse operations, which includes Retail and eCommerce operations. The GM of the ShipCenter sets strategy, operational and service level results, financial performance, continuous improvement initiatives, quality, service and safety across the ShipCenter, including activating operations for transportation logistics arriving and leaving the facilities.

The position builds annual operating plans, labor requirements (up to 600 team members during peak), expense plans ($20M annually) and a capital budget for the facility between $1-$4M. The GM establishes a positive, inclusive culture where Crew members can thrive and grow their careers with Five Below, while driving a mindset of continuous improvement to drive changes and year-over-year improvements in service and cost. Provides leadership and direction to exempt and non-exempt ShipCrew members to foster an environment and culture with positive associate relations.

Each ShipCenter is highly automated and handles over 15M cartons annually, including a holiday period with more than double normal operating volume and up 6,000 direct to customer orders daily. This role is responsible for the overall planning, execution and cross-functional partnership across the business to maximize sales and customer service. This position must be able to communicate effectively across the business and work with key stakeholders in Finance, Store Operations, Website Operations, Customer Service, Planning and Allocation and Merchandising.

Responsibilities:

Operational Processes

Own daily, weekly and monthly results for all parts of ShipCenter operations; Receiving through Shipping.

Manage, lead and partner with onsite support functions, like Inventory Control, Facilities, IT and HR.

Perform ongoing analysis of results and operational processes to identify opportunities to improve distribution center efficiencies/productivity and reduce distribution processing cost per unit and cost per carton.

Qualify and quantify key opportunities for improvement in operations and return-on-investment; build a business case to implement and present to leadership as appropriate.

Work closely with Supply Chain, Transportation, Global Logistics and Inventory teams to establish volume and flow plans for each week and month to feed operational, financial and labor plans.

Develop a safe working environment, leveraging network and industry best practices, with both processes and equipment.

Labor Management

Work with HR teams to set policies and approach around labor and workforce management.

Build a culture consistent with Five Below core values.

Recruit, develop, retain future leaders in Supply Chain.

Assist in the development and implementation of processes and methods for labor forecasting, staffing, modeling performance reporting and tracking, and other ad-hoc reporting.

Drive tactics to improve engagement, reduce turnover and help build careers for ShipCrew.

Provide leadership and direction for the facility to include establishing operating principles and setting objectives.

Distribution Center Storage/Work Area/Material Handling and Automation Design

Analyze/evaluate existing distribution center storage design, material handling systems and automation and make recommendations to improve capacity, efficiency, and safety.

Assist with the analysis of space utilization and efficient use of storage media for inventory.

Identify scope and requirements for equipment or tools, solicit estimates, review proposals and make recommendations to management.

Results

Own operational metrics for receiving, shipping, replenishing volumes needed to support business.

Achieve service levels necessary to support business, stores and eComm customer satisfaction.

Meet or beat weekly, monthly and quarterly financial targets and operating plans.

Qualifications:

10+ years within a growing distribution or manufacturing environment managing a diverse hourly workforce.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Working knowledge of a WMS (Manhattan Associates WMOS preferred) and MS Office.

Experience implementing a labor standards program.

Experience in a high volume, automated, wave managed environment.

Strong work ethic with a high degree of flexibility to work in an ever-changing environment.

Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivated and well-organized.

Demonstrated people leadership and development capabilities.

DC Startup experience.

Must be flexible with work hours and travel to facilities.

Must be relocatable to other locations.
