Principal Mechanical Engineer
based in Cranberry Township, PA.

Your Day-to-Day:
Environmentally Assisted Fatigue (EAF) and Metal Fatigue
Supporting Environmentally Assisted Fatigue (EAF) and Metal Fatigue.
Performing a variety of engineering tasks in support of our Westinghouse-developed WESTEMS program. The WESTEMS program is a fatigue aging management software for monitoring plant transients and performing fatigue analysis.
Developing site specific WESTEMS models
Processing data from operating plants to develop transient cycle counts and fatigue usage at monitored locations
Supporting coding upgrades to the WESTEMS software to enhance its functionality and efficiency
Providing ongoing customer support for use of the WESTEMS software, including software installation, training, and user group meetings
Interfacing with external customers to define projects for commercial offers
Performing a variety of engineering tasks in support of our License Renewal and Subsequent License Renewal Projects with a focus in the areas of Time-Limited Aging Analyses (TLAAs), Metal Fatigue, and Environmentally Assisted Fatigue (EAF); these tasks may include the following:
Identifying TLAAs, fatigue analyses of record (AORs), and design transients that are part of the current licensing basis
Reviewing plant data, operator logs, etc. to identify past transient occurrences and develop projected transient cycles for the period of extended operation
Performing EAF screening evaluations to identify leading component locations requiring further evaluation
Performing hand calculations to reduce conservatism in the fatigue AOR and apply EAF penalty factors (Fen) in the calculation of EAF cumulative usage factors (CUFen)
Utilize the ANSYS software to develop finite element models and transfer functions for use in downstream WESTEMS evaluations
Utilize the WESTEMS software to perform detailed stress and fatigue evaluations per ASME Code Section III Subsection NB-3200 criteria
Interfacing with external customers to define project scope and resolve comments on documents
Providing customer consultation to resolve NRC questions and requests for additional information
Who You Are:
As a successful candidate, you will bring the following to the team:
Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering
Minimum 8 years of applicable experience required; 10 plus years preferred
Piping systems and component analysis
Experience with ASME Section III and Section XI criteria preferred
Experience with FEA and ANSYS/ABAQUS preferred.
Ability to learn quickly and display a strong attention to detail
Nuclear plant primary systems knowledge preferred
