Department PurposeThe Division of Student Success promotes student success from first contact through graduation, provides comprehensive student services, facilitates student learning and engagement by providing quality extra- and co-curricular programs, leadership and developmental opportunities, and fosters an inclusive campus community aligned with the educational mission of Pueblo Community College.

Position SummaryThe Vice President of Student Success (VPSS) serves in a key senior leadership and advisory position, leading the Student Success Division in all areas of student services, while building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment. The VPSS supervises and oversees the strategic and operational aspects of Student Life and Leadership, Support and Outreach Services, Enrollment Services, and Student & Judicial Affairs.

In accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes 24-50-135, this position has been exempted from the State Personnel System.

Job Duties

Essential Functions

Leads the Student Success Division by:

Establishing multi-year tactical and annual operational goals designed to implement the strategic goals of the College President and CCCS.

Ensuring division operations align with the College’s strategic plan.

Creating organizational structures, personnel assignment, and resource utilization to ensure a student-centered environment at all levels.

Developing and implementing student success policies, procedures, and practices which foster and promote student learning and student success.

Collaborating with college leadership to ensure initiatives are comprehensive and in alignment with academic and other college initiatives.

Representing the College to various external entities and with outside agencies in matters relating to the College’s student success areas.

Oversees Student Success programs by:

Proposing and leading new initiatives to increase diversity, equity and inclusion.

Collaborating with other college administrators, faculty, staff, and student leaders to accomplish individual, department, division, and college goals.

Conducting trend analysis to address future needs and identify new services and programs.

Maintaining continuous evaluation of the economic feasibility of student services.

Remaining current with the student services standards and practices.

Coordinating the planning and execution of commencement ceremonies for all campuses.

Directing the creation of the College Catalog, Student Handbook, Biennial Report, and academic calendar.

Manages the Student Success budget in compliance with all fiduciary responsibilities by:

Conducting ongoing planning, review, and management of budgets.

Monitoring budgets in collaboration with directors and implementing adjustments to maintain balanced budgets.

Collaborating with Academic Support and with other departments to ensure and promote a total student experience.

Identifying and launching new opportunities for partnerships with public and private sector entities.

Oversees student judicial affairs, complaint resolution, and other issues by:

Directing college-wide activities related to student due-process/judicial proceedings, including writing appropriate policies and procedures and conducting investigations and hearings on student judicial matters.

Serving as the second level of review and appeal to ensure students are afforded timely due process.

Assisting the Title IX Coordinator with Title IX investigations and situations as appropriate.

Serving as co-chair of the College Compliance Oversight Committee and ensuring compliance with all policies, rules, and laws.

Serving as a key resource for development and implementation of primary and ongoing training to meet the needs of the college.

Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information as required.

Completes all required compliance training within the established timeline.

Serves on committees and other groups as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Master’s or doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution, preferably in student services or education administration.

Licenses or Certificates:

Title IX certification

Experience:

Five or more years in a senior leadership role (Dean or higher) in a higher education setting.

Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in student services, student life, enrollment, or similar.

Five or more years of budgetary responsibility.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards pertaining to student admissions, financial aid, records, advising, placement, assessment, testing, and activities.

Knowledge of Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA, and other laws pertaining to higher education.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Working knowledge of Ellucian Banner.
