Automated Meter Reader (AMR) Technician . The ideal candidate will be responsible for applying technical skills to maintain and operate the City's Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) System. Role includes installing and maintaining water meters; interpreting results from AMR system to address any issues/concerns. Applies technical skills to service and maintain the City's AMR and meter system with direction from the Sr. CSR - Field Services.Performs meter system connects and disconnects on new, closed or non-payment accounts. May need to conduct disconnects in emergency situations (example: private plumbing break; etc.).Understand and interprets results when reading water meters. May need to reread meters based upon request from UBO or customers.Documents meter conditions and other relative information regarding AMR system.Reports if AMR and meter system equipment is in need of repair (example: water leaks or the need for new meter boxes).Assists office personnel when needed regarding field operations, locations of meters and assignments of account numbers to new water taps.Maintains records of work performed such as jobs completed to include labor, material and equipment.Completes UBO related work orders.Provide backup in the Senior CSR's absence.Rotates on after hour calls which includes weekends and holidays. When performing after hours duty, employee is required to arrive to the job site within 30 minutes of receiving call out.Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.Ability to get along with other employees and the public.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Requires work outdoors. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures, inclement weather, insects and wildlife. Ability to sit, bend, stoop, lift and climb into small areas. Employee will be required to climb towers to maintain elevated AMR equipment. Employee lifts large valve covers, pumps, valves, fittings and other equipment necessary to complete the work. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. Employee may be exposed to electrical hazards and potentially hazardous chemicals or materials and traffic hazards while in the field. Must be able to walk on loose, uneven, and sloped ground. Must be able to operate AMR equipment.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to understand work orders and maps in order to find street locations.Skill in math to determine the amount of water utilized.Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools such as shovels, meter wrenches and meter keys.Ability to utilize electronic AMR devices and understand necessary data from meter reading software in order to make suggestions for improvement and/or troubleshoot concerns.Ability to respond to after-hours calls.Employee is required to arrive to job site within 30 minutes of receiving a call out.Ability to effectively communicate with citizens and employees in order to provide information on the AMR system and the results that are being reported on water usage; etc.Communication both verbally and in writing could include how the system operates; maintenance of the system; meter reading; troubleshooting; etc.Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a related field. Valid Texas driver?s license with driving record that meets City guidelines. Personal Protective Equipment Required: (i.e. Safety Boots).
