This position responds within the scope of training under operational guidelines and physician medical control. This position supervises the EMT during patient encounters and under limited supervision of the Ambulance Director. The Paramedic may respond in emergency response vehicle to scene to initiate patient care.Performance Expectations for All Employees1.Protects confidential information and understands responsibilities regarding confidential information.2.Promotes a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff; and demonstrates safe work practices.3.Consistently meets the services' expectations for exemplary customer service.4.Demonstrates understanding of and ability to carry out Performance Improvement principles in daily work.5.Pursues learning opportunities to enhance personal and professional capabilities6.Demonstrates competence regarding special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations.7.Complies with all elements of the compliance for the service.Examples of Duties 1.Responds to 911 medical response and inter-facility transports.1.1 Assesses the medical needs of the sick or injured patient and provides immediate care as allowed by the department's medical director and within the Paramedics' scope of training.1.2 Operates the ambulance according to the state statutes and department policies; provides for safe transportation to and from the scene and/or hospital; demonstrates an understanding of "due regard".1.3 Coordinates patient care and communicates effectively with peers, patients, families, bystanders, other responders, and other health care providers.1.4 Observes patient en route and administers care as directed by the physician or emergency department; identifies diagnostic signs that require communication with facility.1.5 Maintains contact with dispatch and/or hospital to provide information or obtain assistance in treating medical conditions; maintains contact with other agencies such as police, sheriff, air ambulance, and first responders as needed.1.6 Assesses nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.1.7 Administers medications as authorized by the Medical Director.1.8 Provides for a safe patient care environment, including proper cleaning and decontamination of equipment; ensures equipment is accounted for and in working condition for each shift; encourages safe work habits of peers; demonstrates proper lifting and moving techniques in patient handling.1.9 Demonstrates competency for department equipment; attends mandatory meetings as determined by leadership; completes certification requirements annually.1.10 Maintains narcotic count in an appropriate manner as directed by department policy.1.11 Extricates victims of entrapment with the help of first responders; assesses nature and extent of illness or injury; takes pulse and blood pressure; visually observes changes in skin color; establishes priority for emergency care and renders appropriate care; may administer fluid replacement as directed by physician. May administer variance drugs.1.12 Lifts and carries sick and injured persons to the ambulance for transport to the medical facility.1.13 May use equipment such as defibrillator when performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation in a pulseless, non-breathing patient.1.14 May perform intubation to open airways and ventilate patient, provides treatment for prevention and maintenance of signs and symptoms of shock in patient.1.15 Completes patient care reports in an efficient and expedient manner and ensures all reports contain the proper content for billing purposes. Patient care reports are posted to report processor following each call.1.16 Actively participates in the quality assurance process; completes required documentation changes, additions, and/or addendums in a timely manner.2.Maintains ambulance in a state of readiness for emergency calls.2.1.Replaces supplies, sends used supplies for sterilization, and decontaminates the interior of the ambulance.2.2.Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of vehicles as needed.2.3.Replaces items used during patient encounters2.4.Demonstrates good stewardship of resources and completes daily and monthly vehicle inventory and cleaning as appropriate.3.Performs a variety of administrative and training duties.3.1. Maintains medical service records as requested or required by department policy.3.2.Attends and participates in departmental training drills and training sessions as directed.3.3.Ensures new employee orientation remains a priority as outlined in the orientation manual, and provides orientation to new employees in conjunction with the Director, EMT Administrative Assistant, and other staff.3.4.Assists with various office and administrative tasks as requested by the Director.4.Performs other duties as assigned to include station duties, home visits, and other duties as assigned by the DirectorTypical Qualifications Thorough knowledge of the principles of anatomy and physiology; thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment and transportation; thorough knowledge of equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents; thorough knowledge of the street and road system and physical layout of the city and primary service area; skill in diagnosing a victim's condition and ap- plying emergency medical care; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, associates, patients and their families, other emergency service agencies and the general public; ability to keep records and prepare reports.Minimum EducationSuccessful completion of a state or US DOT approved paramedic courseRequired Skills/ExperienceGood interpersonal and communication skillsGood documentation skillsPrevious EMS experiencePreferred Skills/ExperienceOne-year experience in a career EMS system, or two years' experience in a volunteer EMS system, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Associate's or Technical DegreeComputer and/or typing skillsRequired Certification/LicenseCurrent registration as a Paramedic with the National Registry of EMT'sCurrent certification as a Paramedic with the Minnesota EMSRBCurrent BLS CPR Certification through American Heart AssociationCurrent ACLS certification through American Heart AssociationCurrent state-issued driver's license (with acceptable driving history)Emergency vehicle operator training - CEVO III or EVOCICS 800*ICS 700*ICS 200*ICS 100*Preferred Certification/LicensurePALS* and/or PEPPCurrent AMLSCurrent ITLS, PHTLS, and/or ATLSCertified CPR Instructor through American Heart Association*(must complete within 90 days of start date)This position is not eligible for benefits.01 Do you possess a NREMT Paramedic certification?
