Summary:

This position performs a variety of integrated pre and post-operative critical care functions, intuitively, using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.Responsibilities:(25%)*

Assesses patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support.(25%)*

Organizes and coordinates all aspects of patient care according to the patients real and/or perceived needs.(25%)*

Evaluates patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patients plan of care or clinical path.(25%)*

Consults and collaborates with members of the healthcare team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESProvides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback for the following:Adolescent - 13 to 17 yearsAdult - 18 to 64 yearsLater Adult - 65 years and olderDemonstrates proficiency (according to hospital and unit policy and procedure) in nursing skills to carry out the patients plan of care.Communicates interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.Educates patients and families.Provides teaching, support and coordination of healthcare plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed.Promotes clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improves strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.Other duties as assigned.Certifications and Licensures:Credential: ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life SupportEquivalent Experience:

NRGOther Information:EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:Completion of orientation process as described in the Critical Care Competency Policy, and as outlined for the care of the post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patient and general surgery patient requiring critical care nursing skills.Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.MyMichigan Health is a technology driven organization and employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. An employee may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
