JOB PURPOSE

The Ballistics/Quality Technician is responsible for the inspection, measurement, documentation of in-process and finished goods. This position will utilize measurement and test equipment to verify all material meets or exceeds the current quality standards internally and externally (Customer) per established procedures. The Ballistics/Quality Technician must follow all current procedures with a strict adherence to the Quality System and provide full Quality support to Manufacturing. This position will also be responsible for all ballistics testing from the production floor to requests from engineering and management. Other areas can/will be added due to changing business needs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Inspect materials using appropriate methods and equipment such as (not limited to) Calipers, Micrometers, Pitch Micrometers, TIR Gage, Height Gages, etc.Perform incoming material inspections as necessary to validate they meet necessary specificationsPerform First Article Inspections and provide results to support manufacturing and production of material and components

Note: FAI’s are very high in priority and must always be prioritized appropriately

Safely and competently operate handguns and rifles of various types, calibers, and manufacturers to test various parameters of ammunition including (but not limited to) – Pressure, Velocity, Accuracy, and Function and CasualtyInstalls, calibrates, and operates various types of mechanical, electronic, and electromechanical test and measurement devices or systemsAssists with handloading and product development to meet business needsProvide In-Process Inspections, random and scheduled, to manufacturing to verify quality requirements are being met

In-Process inspections are to be performed routinely to monitor production processes and parts. Parts may be designated by production for QA verification; however, Ballistics/Quality Technicians are expected at random unscheduled intervals, select parts from in-process and finished goods bin for validation and verification. (Random sampling)

Provide feedback (communication) to production personnel and management on the current state of production quality and any issues that arise

Communication can/will include email, telephone, two-way radios, etc.

Ability to analyze quality data and decide whether to certify or reject specific products and communicate results appropriatelyAbility to prepare written documentation such as Non-Conforming Material Reports, Product Acceptance Records, Inspection Plans, Quality Alerts etc.Ability to participate in process and product audits in support of the Quality System (ISO Audits)While this Job Location’s primary work area is designated, it is to be expected the Ballistics/Quality Technicians has a full understanding and ability to perform within other job locations in the Quality Department in order to alleviate any issues that arise from staffing (Cross Trained for other locations/labs/QA roles)Adhere to guidelines and procedures to ensure the safe handling, removal, and disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous materialsAbility and willingness to perform other job duties as deemed necessary by the Quality Manager or managementQUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus 1-2 years of experience in Ballistics or a Quality Technician role or equivalent experience.Ability to read and understand Safety Rules, Standard Operating Procedures, Forms etcEntry level armorer understandingAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, internal or external, including Dimensions, GD&T (Geometric Design and Tolerance), Parts Lists, Bills of Materials, Revisions & ChangesAbility to use hand measurement tools such as height gages, calipers, micrometers, air gages, thread rings and plugs, pitch micrometers etc.Ability to complete routing forms and inspection documents and distribute as requiredAbility to apply problem solving techniques to work with production personnel in solving potential product and process problems encountered during manufacturingAbility to communicate effectively in a technical mannerPossess strong computer skills. MS Office (Emphasis in Excel), Google Drive & Google SuiteDesire to improve themselves, the quality system and instill a quality mentality into co-workersAbility to assist in the communication of the quality system requirements to other personnelWORKING CONDITIONS

Adhere to all safety and quality system standards and principlesIt is to be expected that the Ballistics/Quality Inspector understands that laboratory environments are to be kept clean and tidyPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs safelyMust have dexterity in order to quickly sort through items and remove/replace the parts needed during the manufacturing process(es)Ability to use common hand and power tools
