Our mission is to provide a full range of primary health care and supportive social services that promote the health and well-being of all who live in or visit the ten outermost towns of Cape Cod.

OCHS now cares for more than 18,000 patients annually, and no one is denied access to services due to an inability to pay. Founded in 1987 through the merger of Health Associates of Provincetown (established in 1972) and the AIM Medical Center in Wellfleet (established in 1966), Outer Cape Health has a long history of successful growth and expansion in pursuit of this mission. As a Patient-Centered Medical Home, OCHS holds itself to the highest standards. Ensuring patients have access to care when they need it and request it, and validating that staff are working at the top of their licensures, are foundations of this model.

A day in the life of this role:

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) is responsible for partnering with the CEO to achieve OCHS' long-term strategic direction and cultivating the organizational culture to align with OCHS' Board approved strategic plan. The CSO understands both the external landscape and internal organizational capabilities and develops strategies for OCHS to meet its mission in a financially sustainable and people-centered way. The CSO plays a crucial role in OCHS' organizational transformation and change management efforts, leading efforts to foster cross-functional collaboration, innovative thinking, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Summary of duties:

Serves as strategic thought partner to the CEO and collaborates with the Executive Team to develop and implement strategies to fulfill the mission, vision and values of the organization, including high quality, patient-focused healthcare.

Partner with key stakeholders across the system and connect dots between teams to support alignment in both strategic and operational decision-making to accomplish key priorities and objectives of the organization.

Works collaboratively with Executive and Management teams to ensure health center priorities and strategic plans are effectively aligned, communicated and understood across departments.

Provide sound leadership to the health center's staff, fostering a culture of belonging, psychological safety, teamwork, respect, and collaboration.

As directed by the CEO, coaches, leads and/or collaborates with other Executive Team member(s) to execute strategic initiatives.

Oversee management, vision and strategy development of the Finance and Information Technology (IT) health center departments.

Facilitate discussion with the Executive Team to identify organizational needs, prioritize strategic initiatives, and ensure alignment and clear understanding of strategic goals.

Seeks and analyzes data and input from a variety of sources to identify opportunities, foresee possible threats, and align decisions with the organization's overall strategy.

Employs change management framework and effectively balances the desire/need for change with an understanding of how much change the organization is capable of handling.

Coordinates with key external and internal leaders to understand industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to primary care and community health centers.

As directed by the CEO, cultivates relationships with external stakeholders, vendors, policy makers and/or strategic partners.

Works with the Finance Team on the organization's annual budget, including helping to inform the annual budget, ensure spending is in alignment with strategic priorities, and monitor actual financial performance to budgeted expectations.

Works with the Finance Team to help inform financial forecasts.

Works with the CEO to evaluate payer and large vendor contracts and determine which are most appropriate for OCHS.

As directed by the CEO, participates in Finance Meetings and Forums to understand key policy and reimbursement changes that may impact the operations and/or strategic direction of OCHS.

Collaborates with other members of the Executive Team and/or Dept Heads to understand financial stability of departments and service lines.

Carries out leadership responsibilities as requested by the CEO, including representing the health center at external meetings, preparing and making presentations to the Board of Directors and other collaborators.

At the direction of the CEO may also be temporarily assigned organizational teams or reporting lines that have strategic significance.

What we need from you:

Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related administrative discipline.

Minimum of 5+ years of progressive management and leadership experience required, preferably in a community health center or similar primary care setting.

Excellent financial management and budgeting skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated skills and experience in collaboration, negotiation, problem identification and resolution.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Includes strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities, knowledge of health information technology in primary care settings, including design and use of data.

Strong management and leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including community partners, government agencies, and vendors.

Commitment to the mission and values of community health in a rural setting such as the Outer Cape of Massachusetts.

Excellent oral and written communications skills.

Excellent judgment and ability to solve problems in a timely manner.

Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse and inclusive environment.
