MARSHALLTOWN, the leading manufacturer and distributor of construction tools, is seeking a

Senior Die Design Engineer

at our Fayetteville, AR location.

Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Senior Die Design Engineer would have responsibility for:

Assist in the design and development of stamping tooling including strip layouts, simulations, die construction and press specifications

Make purchase commitments for such tools

Track and report progress of tooling programs from sourcing to a production ready state

Assist in the development and updating of tooling program timelines

Assist in the development of Die and Gage standards manual

Assist in development and improvement of current and new tooling sources

Coordinate information between tooling suppliers and internal business groups through the Engineering Manager

Assist purchasing on procurement of production and tryout material.

Ability to trouble shoot dies

Identify and develop tool supply base for any emerging technologies working together with PD.

Manage a tooling maintenance scheduling and tracking system that is visual, accurate, and adequate to meet all internal and external requirements.

Use a data driven approach to tooling maintenance and repairs, which includes tracking hit counts and maintenance history, to predictively schedule necessary actions in order to minimize tooling cost per hit, scrap generation, and machine downtime

Facilitate effective communication across all facilities to share progress, status, and lessons-learned

Responsible for contacting tooling vendors for repairs in a timely manner, and securing competitive quotes for repairs being performed

Oversee all new tool builds and outside maintenance/repair activities on existing tools to ensure full compliance to standards

Provide engineering floor support on production dies and tooling for advanced troubleshooting to minimize downtime and scrap

Assist in the education and training of floor personnel to enhance employee ownership and quality improvement

Assists in coordinating design and delivery of new machinery, tool & die handling equipment and miscellaneous supplies/tools to support tool room activities

Evaluates product design for manufacturability, recommend ways to make a product more cost effective including product design & process design change recommendations.

Design high precision progressive stamping dies for high-volume production of complex tolerance products per Diemasters engineering standards, this includes, but is not limited to, generate flat blank, develop strip layout, blanking and forming station layout, detail component and assembly drawings, etc.

Create and modify internal product drawings for inspection and other purposes.

Design fixtures, gages, and other custom tooling or equipment as required. Automation design experience a plus.

Participate in tooling kickoff, specification review, design review, and lessons learned (postmortem meetings)

Review stamping die cost estimated for accuracy with Operations.

Instruct and mentor within department as needed.

Other project work and tasks, as assigned.

Education & Experience:

4-year degree technical degree, required. A Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, strongly preferred.

5-10 years Tool and Die Engineering/Stamping tooling and application

Minimum of 5 yrs. of die design experience to include designing complex progressive stamping dies, engineering changes, etc.

Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD). At a minimum, must be familiar with at least one 2-D CAD design package (eg. AutoCAD, Solid Edge, CadKey), however, 3-D experience preferable (eg. Solidworks, Inventor, ProENGINEER).

Understanding of ANSI/ISO drawing standards. Knowledge of GD&T dimensioning preferable.

Knowledge of Wire EDM and/or CNC machining technologies.

Knowledge of tool steels and their applications.

Knowledge of commonly stamped metals such as cold-rolled steels and stainless steels.

Understanding of die sensors, vision inspection, and/or related technology is preferable.

Knowledge of insert molding process desirable.

Proven ability to read/interpret GD&T and engineering specifications is required.

Proven ability estimating stamping die cost and timing.

Exceptional analytical and computational skills.

Intermediate proficiency in Inventor or Autocad is required.

Strong multi-task skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment is required.

Demonstrated ability to function both independently and with good judgement in a team environment is required.

Good verbal and written communication skills.
