Bioinformatics Programmer 3MED-ZSFG-AIDSFull Time80792BRJob SummaryThe Division of HIV, Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is an internationally recognized global leader in HIV clinical care, research and education. The Bioinformatics Programmer 3 will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Study Investigators in running the computational aspects of Dr. Lee's research group. They will have the unique opportunity to work directly with project directors and research collaborators to help design and implement data analysis methods to analyze a wide range of multidisciplinary projects. The incumbent will lead and help design complex analyses applying novel computational methods and managing the research group's server space (e.g., UCSF Wynton HPC cluster).The candidate should have a strong background in mathematics, biostatistics, statistical genetics, and bioinformatics. They should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to be able to interact with interdisciplinary collaborators. The candidate should use skills as a seasoned, experienced bioinformatics programming professional with a broad understanding of computational algorithms and systems; identifies and resolves a wide range of issues/software bugs.Department DescriptionThe Division consists of approximately 36 faculty members, 11 fellows/postdoctoral scholars, and 170 academic and staff employees. It is the largest Division of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at ZSFG, with a total expenditure budget of approximately $52 million dollars.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in biological science, computational/programming, or related area and/or equivalent experience/training.3 or more years of directly relevant programming experience.Experience using R programming language.Experience using Python programming language.Hands-on experience performing next-generation sequencing and/or genotyping.Working knowledge of genomics and the limitations/common sequencing errors from associated laboratory techniques.Thorough knowledge of web, application, and data security concepts and methods.Self-motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner.Strong project management skills.Understanding of relational databases, web interfaces, and operating systems.Thorough knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification, and implementation.Preferred QualificationsHands-on experience performing immunophenotyping (flow cytometry or CyTOF).Pride ValuesUCSF is committed to building a broadly diverse community, nurturing a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and engaging diverse ideas for the provision of culturally competent education, discovery, and patient care.Equal Employment OpportunityThe University of California San Francisco is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
