WSP is currently initiating a search for a

Civil Engineering Team Lead

for our

Charlotte, NC

office. Be involved in projects with our

Civil, Ground Engineering, & Materials Team

This position will provide leadership within a sector of organization to ensure civil engineering subject matter, technical deliverables, projects and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds industry and company standards for design, safety, and functionality. The successful candidate will lead teams delivering services for civil engineering projects that involve waste management facility design and permitting, stormwater management, landfill gas management, operations planning, and construction quality assurance. They will provide technical direction and lead client-facing teams to support the continued growth of our civil design and environmental services within the Power market, with a strong emphasis on Coal Combustion Residuals (CCR). They will ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

Provide the Charlotte Civil Engineering Team with leadership, direction, and performance guidance to ensure all staff are well supported and provided the appropriate opportunities for growth and professional development.

Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.

Assist with recruitment and growth of the team, as needed.

Support the long-term strategy, growth and pipeline development of Civil Engineering work for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on Power market opportunities for all phases of project delivery for civil engineering discipline.

Demonstrate technical experience to advance service offerings and technical excellence through project delivery.

Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the civil engineering discipline and function, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.

Lead mid to large-scale civil engineering projects or tasks including managing scopes, budgets, subcontractors, schedules, and reporting to ensure successful outcomes for our clients.

Assist or lead sales efforts including proposals, contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.

Serve as one of the engineering discipline’s lead representatives/liaisons to a variety of external entities including Federal, State, and Local agencies, clients, subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.

Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide “trusted advisor” service and future-ready solutions.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

12+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering and civil design.

Engineer license required (multi-state is preferred).

Experience leading and mentoring staff, including assigning and prioritizing work and managing against KPIs.

Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, and standard of care.

Strong working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and business impact on the organization.

Advance proficiency with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.

Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with employees effectively, persuasively, and tactfully at all levels of the organization.

Tactical thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize responsibilities.

Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and staff including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship exists.

Proven record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing a team of 10+ engineers.

Strong experience in managing the review and approval of documents and discipline specific deliverables, certifications, processes, and plans in a multi-project environment is highly desirable.

Advanced knowledge of discipline-specific software, technology, and tools.
