We are seeking to appoint an energetic, positive and committed paediatrician to become a member of our friendly paediatric department. Team working, a sense of humour and a desire to develop the service we deliver is essential.This post offers an exciting opportunity for those paediatricians who wish to work in a large district general hospital setting, acting as member of a team of supportive consultants. There is the opportunity to further develop a complimentary subspecialty within the neurodisability/community paediatric service or, with agreement, scope to work within the acute paediatric service.Compatible interests are welcome and we seek to support any complimentary personal professional development. The purpose of this post is to provide a neurodisability paediatric consultant to further develop and lead within a subspecialty interest. The post holder will be expected to help provide clinical services for Gloucestershire, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. They will be expected to work closely with primary and tertiary care, as well as non-health agencies, to provide a seamless service.As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:To ensure the provision of a first-class clinical service, including safeguarding.To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate.To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans.To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children's Division or the Trust.About us

To provide expertise in the assessment and investigation of young children presenting with a range of developmental problems; to provide continuity for those children who require ongoing clinical care due to their developmental condition.To provide expert assessment of children presenting with social communication/neurodevelopmental disorders.To provide clinical continuity and contribute to care when their patients require hospital attendance or admission to the ward.To facilitate transition of clinical care to adult services.To provide clinical assessment and opinion in children presenting with safeguarding concerns.To contribute to a countywide consultant led service, and promote an increase in service provision and capacity within the available resources.To share responsibility for the delivery of high-quality care to the patients presenting to the paediatric service.To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff.Person Specification

Qualifications

Full General Medical Council registration.On Specialist Register for General (Internal) Medicine and Geriatric Medicine via CCT or CESR-CP (Combined Programme).MRCP.Neurodisability training program.Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty.Personal membership of a 'medical defence' organisation.Clinical Experience

Level 3 (multiagency) child safeguarding training.A period of training in a specialist neurodisability and/or neurology unit (or equivalent).Experience in multidisciplinary team working; ability to offer expert clinical opinion on disability, child protection and on wider aspects of community paediatric care.Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices.6 months or more training on a tertiary children's neurology unit.APLS or equivalent.Grid training in neurodisability or community paediatrics.SPIN.Knowledge and Clinical skills

Consistent with independent consultant practice in general paediatrics with a neurodisability/community paediatric subspecialty interest.Competent to take charge of the day to day and longer-term clinical management of children with chronic medical conditions, in particular neurodisability disorders.Competent to assess and lead on the safeguarding aspects of children presenting following possible child abuse.Motivation and Attitude
