Job DescriptionOverview:

The Director of Payroll provides strategic planning, tactical direction and day-to-day management and governance of the Equus Workforce Solutions payroll function. The Director of Payroll is responsible for the supervision and activities of the payroll team including developing and implementing reporting procedures and internal controls, ensuring the accuracy of payroll-related data, and compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

Payroll Processing:

Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, including data input, calculation of wages, deductions, and taxes, and distribution of payments.

Team Leadership:

Lead and manage a team of payroll specialists, ensuring productivity, accuracy, and professional development. Provides guidance, mentorship and feedback to ensure team’s success.

Compliance:

Stay updated on federal, state, and local payroll regulations and ensure compliance in all payroll processes and reporting.

Systems Management:

Manage payroll software and systems, including upgrades, troubleshooting, and implementation of new features to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Audits and Reporting:

Prepare and review payroll reports for accuracy and completeness and collaborate with internal and external auditors as needed. Work with Finance team on establishing internal controls, operating procedures to ensure compliance with all regulations and standards.

Process Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvements in payroll processing, reporting, and systems integration to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Employee Support:

Serve as a point of contact for employee inquiries related to payroll, deductions, and taxes, and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Vendor Management:

Coordinate with external vendors, such as tax authorities and payroll service providers, to ensure accurate and timely payments and compliance with contracts.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

Assist in the preparation of payroll budgets and forecasts, providing insights into payroll-related expenses and trends.

Training and Development:

Develop training programs for payroll staff to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their duties effectively.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (Master's degree preferred).

Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is highly desirable.

Minimum of five years of experience in payroll processing and oversight of a payroll function of more than 2500 employees with at least five years in a supervisory or managerial role.

System implementation project experience including change management.

In-depth knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices.

Proficiency in payroll software and systems, such as ADP, Workday, or SAP.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
