The Marketing Specialist (Director of Sales & Marketing) oversees and supervises the marketing department of the University of Hawaii Press. As a vital figure in the Press' management team, the Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for all Sales and Marketing activities for books and journals programs, as well as serves as an active participant in the strategic and operational decision-making process.Supervises marketing staff, ensuring individual, team and departmental goals and objectives are established and met.Sets and manages the marketing budget, and analyzes, forecasts and reports on sales. Initiates and executes the overall sales and marketing strategy for UH Press journals and books.Serves as lead in the development of new title metadata, print and digital publishing initiatives and strategies, including new vendor arrangements, business models, and improvement of processes and workflows. Sets sales targets, oversees print run/strategies, manages stock levels for Hawaii and Mainland warehouses, reviews and initiates reprints for low stock titles including determining which titles should become print on demand or out of print, and oversees distributed publishing partners.Takes a leadership role in managing records and marketing activities within the presswide database, facilitating timely and accurate metadata creation, maintenance and distribution.Oversees publicity and marketing on press' website, in social, print and digital media, seasonal marketing material, scholarly conferences, book festivals, etc.Works with the acquisitions team to profile new projects, provide market and sales feedback, helps determine pricing, season, and edition, and collaborates on drafting promotional copy.Oversees domestic and international trade sales reps. Conducts seasonal sales conferences with reps and provides reps with seasonal sales support materials and files.Attends domestic and international trade fairs and scholarly conferences, oversees preparation of materials and titles for display at trade fairs and scholarly conferences.Other Duties As Assigned (Denotes Essential Functions).Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Arts & Sciences or related field and 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for sales and/or marketing; or equivalent education/training or experience.Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of sales and/or marketing as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with sales and/or marketing.Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software.For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.Supplemental Minimum Qualifications

Considerable working knowledge in books and/or journals publishing.Ability to travel independently in a timely and efficient manner to various locations, including UH Press Office and Manoa campus.Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills.Desirable Qualifications

Marketing and/or sales management experience in scholarly book publishing.Demonstrated ability to conduct effective sales analyses in scholarly publishing.Demonstrated knowledge of industry standards and best practices for book and journal metadata.To Apply
