Assistant Principal for Teaching, Learning, and Culture
Minimum Qualifications:
DESE License Principal/Assistant Principal
Master’s Degree
Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience

Full Year Position
Under the general supervision of the Elementary School Principal, assist in providing leadership and supervision to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with school committee policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.
To work collegially and collaboratively with the Principal, faculty, staff, families, and students.
To provide leadership in program development, management, and evaluation.
To serve as the building leader in the Principal’s absence.
Essential Functions
Collaboration, Consultation, and Communication
Builds and maintains strong professional relationships with students, families, faculty, and colleagues.
Demonstrates highly effective written and verbal communication skills with all audiences and stakeholder groups.
Meets regularly with the building principal and educational team leader to develop and coordinate all aspects of building operations and programs to ensure student success.
Meets regularly with building based instructional leadership teams (grade level teams, student assistance teams, etc.) to develop a thorough understanding of teaching and learning to inform strategic planning for growth.
Meets regularly with District curriculum leadership to ensure that District leaders have a thorough understanding of teaching and learning needs at the building level and to ensure that building level strategic efforts are aligned to district efforts.
Program Development, Oversight, and Evaluation
Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of District curriculum, key instructional materials/resources, and strategic improvement efforts.
Conduct ongoing monitoring of program efficacy (collection, aggregation, and analysis of quantitative and qualitative performance metrics) to ensure that strategic efforts and resources are aligned to best address the needs of students.
Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of educational programs, including curricular and extracurricular activities.
Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and works with teaching staff to modify instructional methods to fit students’ needs, including students with special needs.
Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
Assisting the Principal in the development and facilitation of faculty and staff professional development; Assist in fostering a school climate that promotes supportive relationships, engagement, and safety, with the goal of developing social and emotional balance.
Facilitate the development and implementation of school wide systems of support for social emotional and behavioral expectations and structures. This includes leading and ensuring the implementation of best practices (PBIS, SEL curriculum) within classrooms and professional development.
Management and Operations
Promote a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms to the school’s standards and school district policies.
Prepares class schedules/master schedules.
Assists in ensuring that School Committee policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
Overseeing and administering school policies regarding student conduct and discipline.
Supervising and managing student arrival and departure.
Supervising student behavior in school common areas and during lunch.
Human Resources
Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district’s evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement, and continued employment.
Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching.
Other Responsibilities
Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.
Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
Attending meetings for the district, school, facility, parent, and departments as appropriate.
Performing other related duties as required and assigned by principal and superintendent.
