Job Summary:

The Junior High Principal at Pasadena Christian School has primary responsibility for the overall leadership to the Junior High department in and through the faculty and staff. This position must be willing to advance the ministry of Christian Education by effectively managing as a servant leader. In accomplishing this purpose, the principal will conform to biblical principles and will maintain the highest ethical and professional standards in relating to members of the Pasadena Christian School faculty, staff, parents, students, and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for curriculum and core elective development and review in coordination with the Head of School, teachers, consultants, and Education Committee of the School Board.

Provide leadership for junior high faculty and staff.

Participate along with the Head of School in securing and maintaining a quality staff of teachers.

Work with the Head of School to recommend, revise and update master class schedules for academic and elective courses.

Administer discipline and counseling to include the student handbook.

Build a positive Junior High atmosphere which exhibits kindness, respect, honesty, and love.

Build morale among staff members by being fair and consistent, having an open-door policy, and seeking to resolve problems as soon as they arise.

Observe students and staff in educational activities and make recommendations for improving programs, techniques, and procedures.

Schedule (enrollment) into classes and manage all FACTS related duties.

Coordinate graduation and all related activities.

Schedule substitutes, including interviewing, managing, and assigning.

Develop a strong spiritual program for students and coordinate when appropriate with the elementary school principal.

Oversee the school budget as it relates to Junior High to include ordering, budgeting, and maintaining accurate accounting records.

Attend leadership meetings with the Head of School.

Attend and assume responsibility for supervision of girls' and boys' athletic events, school related extended field trips and extra-curricular school related activities.

Assume a leadership role in communicating to the various public, private, and parochial high schools in the area in order to assist Admissions Directors and PCS families in making decisions about which high schools to apply to.

Assume a leadership role, in cooperation with PCS leadership, in completing a self-study report for the Visiting Committee of the ACSI and WASC and take appropriate action and make appropriate responses to the recommendations of that committee.

Assist the Head of School in determining methods, times, and frequency of standardized testing and reporting to parents, including reporting of grades, test scores and citizenship evaluations of both formal conferences and written reports.

Develop and conduct professional development for teaching staff.

Work with Elementary School Principal and Head of School to plan the school calendar.

Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent degree required. Master of Education degree preferred.

At least 10 years combined experience in an educational setting (classroom and leadership).

Physical, Mental, and Visual Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Able to lift, bend, grasp, reach, and lift to 20 lbs.

Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Able to maintain confidentiality, work in a busy environment, learn, and retain information.

Possesses a genuine commitment to Christian service. Has initiative and creativity, is highly productive, and is flexible.

A self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Agrees with the school’s statement of faith and the purpose and goals of PCS in providing an integrated Christian education.

Extended times using a computer monitor and reading documents and correspondence.

Technologies:

Proficient in Google Workspace, RenWeb FACTS and Curriculumtrak

Compensation:

The annual compensation for this role is $90,000 to $108,000.

Compensation may vary based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to salary, PCS offers a generous benefits package including but not limited to medical, dental, and vision benefit plans for eligible employees.
