Summary:

Leads, develops and administers compensation programs and ensures alignment with broad corporate strategies. Consults with business functions on compensation related topics, including design and implementation of function-based efforts as well as supporting enterprise-wide compensation programs. Ensures the enterprise's compensation programs are achieving intended outcomes and being administered consistently and fairly across the organization. Functions as a compensation subject matter expert within HR and functions supported.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Consultant for assigned business areas, leading compensation related projects, conducting research, implementing, and introducing new and enhanced compensation related initiatives.

Designs, implements, and administers management and office staff compensation program.

Oversees the design and maintenance of the Workday system as it relates to compensation content and process.

Partners in the design, implementation, and administration of compensation programs unique to assigned business areas.

Applies expertise for implementation, and administration of executive compensation activities.

Partners with Law, Controllers, Compliance, etc. on the analysis, interpretation, and recommendation of legal, regulatory, and finance/accounting provisions that impact the delivery of compensation programs within Northwestern Mutual.

Leads cross-functional compensation related design efforts when assigned.

Serves as subject matter expert to other compensation and HR professionals.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business, finance, human resources or equivalent degree.

Minimum of 8 years compensation experience to include demonstrated success designing, modifying and consulting on compensation programs, experience with multiple job evaluation methodologies, and knowledge of regulations and laws impacting compensation practices.

Strong business acumen to include knowledge in current and future practices, trends and information affecting the business and organization.

Diverse background supporting distinct business units as compensation professional.

Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge across complex business areas with exceptional analytical and mathematical skills.

Proven ability to build a strong rapport with people at all levels of the organization and influence without authority.

Excellent consulting skills to include business acumen, interpersonal skills and demonstrated application of specific consulting skills to include contracting, engagement, implementation and assessment.

Strong ability to consult in a cross functional environment at all levels within the organization.

Proven success in dealing with ambiguous situations and working independently.

Demonstrated ability to integrate among the various Human Resources disciplines.

Preferred:

MBA in business or related field or CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) designation

Leadership background in diversified business settings.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start: $100,030.00

Pay Range - End: $185,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
