PurposeTo meet the needs of our growing student population in the College of Education (COE) as well as to align with the University’s goal to improve career success for all students, our College is seeking to invest and strategically grow our career services team, beginning with the hiring of a new Director. The Director of Career Engagement will lead all operations related to career services and activities within the College. The Director will be responsible for overseeing the strategic growth of the COE Career Engagement office as well as supervising career services staff and liaising with our COE student affairs team and other college partners.

ResponsibilitiesThe Director of COE Career Engagement will lead the following strategic areas:

Management, Operational Oversight and Collaboration:

The Director will report to the associate dean of student success, community engagement, and administration and will manage the COE Career Engagement team. The director will serve as chief point of contact for department chairs and faculty area leads on career-related issues for all COE students and will work closely with the COE assistant dean of student affairs and the academic advising team on career-related matters.

Executive Leadership:

Build a strong and trusted career services team to serve all COE students. Serve on the College’s Leadership Team.

Employer Relations:

Create and implement employer engagement strategies to cultivate and maintain cross-industry relationships with employers that align with COE student career interests and future employment trends.

Coaching:

Create, lead, supervise and mentor a team of career coaches and coordinator who are professionally prepared and qualified to provide high-quality career and professional development.

Career Readiness:

Integrate career competencies into the College of Education student experience and foster a College culture that uses the core competencies to articulate the strengths of various College of Education majors and degrees.

Data and Assessment:

Partner with the College of Education assessment team to develop a strategic plan to assess and report on the impact of career development programming.

Experiential Learning & Alumni Engagement:

Provide strategic leadership to develop opportunities, programs and resources for curricular and co-curricular-integrated experiential learning for undergraduate and graduate Education majors.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in education, career counseling, or a related field.

At least five years of professional experience in career services, higher education or related industry role performing a variety of career coaching and/or college recruiting activities.

Proven ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with students and campus partners.

Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and develop staff.

Excellent event planning and project management skills.

Excellent public speaking and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently as well as within a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Ability to travel for work as necessary.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will exceed the required qualifications and have significant experience at a director or associate director level.

Experience managing or working within a college career office.

Proficient knowledge of the general job market and specialized Education and Kinesiology and Health Education industries and sectors.

Experience working with job recruiters.

Experience developing career coaching teams in a university setting.

Proficient knowledge of and experience with NACE core competencies.

Experience preparing students for post-graduation success through career education and skill and professional development.

Experience working with faculty on career education curriculum integration.

Ability to effectively interact and develop relationships with campus partners.

Experience supervising staff and graduate students.

Familiarity with UT departments and campus programs.

Salary Range$90,000+ depending on qualifications
