This involves overseeing staff training, monitoring, and supervision within these sections, ensuring they possess the requisite skills and knowledge to fulfill their responsibilities effectively while meeting compliance standards.A significant aspect of the histocompatibility supervisor's responsibilities involves active engagement in regular meetings with laboratory leadership and clinicians. By participating in these meetings, they collaborate to organize and prioritize laboratory work, aligning activities with the needs and objectives of the healthcare facility. This coordination ensures efficient workflow management and timely delivery of results.Moreover, the histocompatibility supervisor is proficient in performing a range of high-complexity tests essential for histocompatibility assessment and transplantation compatibility. These tests include HLA typing using diverse molecular methods, antibody testing and analysis, crossmatching donors and recipients, engraftment monitoring, and other immunogenetics and transplantation-related assays as required. Their expertise in these areas contributes to the accurate and reliable assessment of compatibility, which is critical for successful transplantation outcomes.The histocompatibility supervisor is responsible for the smooth operation of all tests conducted within their designated sections. They meticulously monitor the availability and functionality of reagents, ensuring that resources are adequately stocked and performing within the laboratory's stringent quality standards.Furthermore, the histocompatibility supervisor plays a pivotal role in quality assurance. They meticulously review data and scrutinize results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established protocols. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. Care of patients is what attracted our faculty and residents to surgery, and it continues to be our main focus. The Department is comprised of seven divisions including Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular & Endovascular Surgery.The UCSF-ITL is a high complexity clinical laboratory that performs tests and provides services that support solid organ (kidney, heart, lung, liver, pancreas, islet, etc.) and hematopoietic stem cell (blood, marrow, cord blood, etc.) transplant programs. The laboratory is CLIA certified and is licensed by the states of California and New York. The lab is also certified as a free-standing-histocompatibility laboratory by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). The laboratory serves as a core laboratory for the NIH Immune Tolerance Network and provides support for several national clinical trials.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / trainingCalifornia Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.California Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist (CHS) license or equivalent.Lead/Supervisory/Manager ExperienceIn-depth knowledge of the genetics of the Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) system, essential for accurately interpreting and reporting results.Skilled in performing complex and specialized testing procedures, ensuring accuracy and reliability in results.Experience in performing clinical histocompatibility testing, providing a solid foundation of practical knowledge and expertise in the field.Maintains current knowledge of laboratory concepts, new methodologies and advances in the field of specimen processing, automation, and procedures.Knowledge of Clinical Laboratory, medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
