Position Title: Director of Engineering

Position Description

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading and overseeing the entire engineering lifecycle, encompassing both software and hardware development, from conception to deployment. This role involves managing the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex software and hardware solutions, ensuring projects are completed efficiently and effectively. The Director of Engineering will approve changes that significantly impact the scope, budget, or schedule of projects, while monitoring progress and performance against the project plan.

Key Functional Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership

Lead the development and implementation of engineering best practices across all teams, ensuring seamless integration without creating silos.

Define project objectives by reviewing engineering project proposals and plans.

Evaluate and prioritize engineering projects to align with organizational goals.

Coordinate resources for different phases and elements of engineering projects, including the solicitation and review of outside vendors as needed.

Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.

Work closely with all process owners to manage project progress and status, including communication of assigned activities with both internal and external project team members.

Support and help drive the company's mission, management objectives, and quality standards through the engineering development process.

Provide new business development with support in technical expertise, research, presentations, etc.

Manage, drive development, and strengthen the Engineering department.

Collaborate with clients' project management teams for coordination of shared tasks and responsibilities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Software Engineering Management

Manage, drive development, and strengthen the Software Engineering department.

Oversee the software testing processes, including determining appropriate tests, prioritization of testing, and ensuring quality standards are met.

Ensure software specifications are created and updated, including requirements documentation, design documentation, and user manuals.

Coordinate software development efforts with both internal and external resources.

Ensure qualification test specs and procedures for software are written and adhered to.

Ensure qualification tests are completed and software products meet company quality standards.

Develop controlled documentation for software versions, updates, and releases.

Hardware / Firmware Engineering Management

Manage, drive development, and strengthen the Hardware / Firmware Engineering department.

Work closely with internal testing for hardware/firmware testing processes, including determining appropriate tests, prioritization of testing, and ensuring quality standards are met.

Ensure hardware/firmware specifications are created and updated, including requirements documentation, design documentation, and user manuals.

Coordinate hardware/firmware development efforts with both internal and external resources.

Ensure qualification test specs and procedures for hardware/firmware are written and adhered to.

Ensure qualification tests are completed and hardware/firmware products meet company quality standards.

Manage the agency certifications.

Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or equivalent combination of training and work experience.

Extensive expertise in commercial refrigeration systems

and their applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.

Proven ability to drive deadlines in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.

Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills at all organizational levels.

Experience with hardware firmware engineering.

Experience with software development methodologies and tools.

Self-directed leader with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
