POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a senior level position that reports directly to the Head of school. The COO plays a vital role in the overall mission, vision and operations of the School. This includes leading a team for building new facilities, managing day-to-day operations, overseeing the operations budget, developing and implementing strategic plans, maintaining safety and security and building relationships with a variety of stakeholders, which include students, parents, staff and the community.
The ideal candidate must be able to effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, staff and the community. The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain relationships, motivate and inspire others, and be a visionary Christian leader.
Duties And Responsibilities
Provide leadership to staff in communication and personal example by exhibiting a Christian lifestyle and supporting the principles of Classical Christian Education.
Provide expert oversight into managing the financial obligations and budget forecasts of the Operations division as well as Capital projects in a way that fosters interdependence with the rest of the Senior Staff Team.
Partner with senior leadership to plan for Capital Renewal and Replacement needs as part of the overall Strategic Financial Plan utilizing software applications adopted by the school to manage this function.
Ability to manage major projects including city permitting, contracting, equipment rentals, equipment maintenance, insurance certification, building and grounds inspections, provide project costs estimates, and communicate activities to management.
Supervise operations staff and contracted custodial services including personnel activities of evaluation, counseling, and assign daily activities of staff.
A unique strength in understanding risk, as developed through both natural disposition and a broad and deep range of relevant experiences; the capacity to pick up on nuance and details to identify areas of potential risk, both small and large; the foresight to design and manage risk systems.
Responsible for accurate record-keeping for all regulatory issues.
The demonstrated ability to create human systems and organizational supports that align people and empower and enable employees to reach increasing levels of effectiveness.
Responsible for operation activities and work being completed in an orderly, and timely manner without interrupting the instructional and co-curricular programs and activities of the School and in some circumstances completing minor orders.
Train operations personnel in safety standards, and OSHA Standards.
Coordinate and schedule campus events and activities in cooperation with staff and parents.
Develop a strategic plan for delivery of all operational activities including non-athletic grounds maintenance, janitorial services, transportation services, and all other facilities maintenance functions.
Manage the material and building supplies purchasing process and ensure timely vendor payments.
Supervise and manage the fixed assets including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roofing, carpentry, general maintenance and alarm systems of the School.
Maintain city permits, inspection and maintenance records.
Manage external partnerships with outside vendors, manage the RFP process for vendor services as required by the Schools Financial Policies and Procedures, and oversee awarded contracts.
Research and stay cognizant of market developments and leading edge of facility operations, and implement emerging technologies as appropriate for efficient site operation.
Develop and maintain procedures and plans for coverage relating to building usage, custodial, grounds, maintenance, safety, security, and emergencies.
Act as a steward of Regents School of Austin resources.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Bachelors degree in related field required, Masters preferred.
Prior experience in the supervision of Facility Operations of at least 100,000 Square Feet.
Prior experience in project management.
Three years experience in security oversight, AHERA, and OSHA compliance.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic and cultural backgrounds of students and employees.
Skillful in the use of Excel and other Microsoft technologies.
Skillful in using facilities assessment and maintenance software applications (VFA or similar application preferred).
Through understanding of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Systems.
Courteous, discreet, professional while interacting with staff.
Membership in professional organization(s).

WORKING CONDITIONS
Twelve month working schedule with paid school holidays and vacation in accordance with Employee Handbook and Head of Schools approval of time off.
EVALUATION
Position will be evaluated annually by the Head of School in accordance with job description and effectiveness of meeting position expectations.
