Reporting to the Vice President for Information Technology Services and CIO, this position is responsible for the provision of services, technologies, and innovation to enhance the academic and research environment thereby improving the current and future impact of LMU. The Director will address the research computing expectations of LMU as a R2 institution, promote innovative teaching practices, provide state of the art digital media solutions, and facilitate world class learning spaces. This position will lead the following teams of professionals that support the academic mission of the university: Instructional Technology & Design, Research Computing Services, Digital Media Services, and Learning Experience Design. By building and maintaining strong relationships with Academic Administration leaders and faculty across the university, this position will engage in dialogue about existing and emergent educational and research technology needs and opportunities that support LMU's mission and goals.Position Specific Responsibilities/AccountabilitiesLeadership and Management:Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the RETS team.Manage and mentor a team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation and financial stewardship.Develop and maintain relationships with strategically important vendors.Serve as the product owner for the University's academic technologies and licensing agreements including anticipating future academic hardware and software needs.Research Computing Services:Oversee the development and implementation of research computing support services, including grant writing assistance, research methodology consultation, and data management.Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and external partners to identify funding opportunities and support interdisciplinary research initiatives.Ensure compliance with ethical standards and regulatory requirements in all research activities.Instructional Design Technology Services:Lead the integration of instructional technology into the curriculum, promoting best practices in online, hybrid, and face-to-face learning environments.Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.Provide training and support to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and digital tools.Digital Media Services:Oversee the production of high-quality multimedia content, including video, audio, graphics, and interactive media for educational and promotional purposes.Ensure the availability of state-of-the-art media production facilities and equipment.Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to produce creative media that supports institutional goals.Learning Experience Design:Provide strategic planning and subject matter expertise to the design of learning and event spaces that are world class and facilitate institutional goals.Partner with academic, administrative, and ITS units to conduct learning experience design, plan related improvement projects, and ensure effective maintenance of learning spaces.Responsible for the learning spaces technology and facilities budgets.Strategic Planning and Assessment:Develop and implement strategic plans that support efficient operations, facilitate continuous improvement, and enable innovation.Conduct regular assessments to measure the effectiveness and impact of services, using data to inform decision-making and drive improvements.Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in research, educational technology, media production, and learning spaces.Collaboration and Partnership:Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including faculty, Academic Affairs, and ITS leadership to understand existing and emerging educational technology needs and ensure that the portfolio of digital services, physical learning spaces, and other IT services provides an ideal environment for teaching and learning.Represent the institution at conferences, workshops, and professional associations related to research, instructional technology, and media services.Promote the institution's research and technological capabilities to enhance its reputation and attract new opportunities.Perform other duties as assigned or requested.Loyola Marymount University Expectations:Exhibit behavior that supports the mission, vision, and values of the university. Demonstrate a commitment to outstanding customer service.Requisite Qualifications:Minimum of 7 years of experience in a leadership role within academic technology, curriculum/instructional design, research support, instructional technology, or media services, learning experience design in an academic or research institution.Typically, a degree in Instructional or Educational Technology, Research Administration, or a field related to the position (Master or Doctorate preferred).Management experience leading academic technology transformational initiatives in complex and dynamic environments.Demonstrated expertise in instructional technology integration, media production, and research methodologies.Excellent interpersonal, management, communication, and team building skills.Strong strategic planning, project management, and budgeting skills.Commitment to fostering an inclusive and innovative academic environment.Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing and presenting comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information.Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with many user groups and governance organizations in a complex institution.
