Summary

The Law Department provides legal advice and counsel to all of NYPA's business and functional areas and seeks to fill the position of Attorney I. Reporting to the Assistant General Counsel for the Contracts, Licensing and Environmental group, the ideal candidate will be flexible to engage on a variety of manners with an eagerness to learn and grow as an Attorney supporting the utility industry. You will have opportunities to support senior counsel on a variety of matters through legal research and drafting, with a focus on transactional, environmental, corporate governance and regulatory compliance as they relate to NYPA's mission. You will have opportunities to collaborate internally to promote consistency in contract terms, support special projects to meet NYPA's strategic goals and adopt the use of technology to achieve efficiencies in a collaborative environment.Responsibilities

Work closely under the direction of an Assistant General Counsel, or an assigned mentor, to learn about NYPA and its subsidiaries, their mission, strategic vision and business activities.Develop a general understanding of NYPA's and its subsidiaries' enabling legislation and related statutes contained in the Public Authorities Law, as well as the areas of law practiced by the law department.Attend meetings with Senior level attorneys.Assist senior level attorneys in research and drafting memoranda on basic issues affecting NYPA.Develop relationships with clients and learn how to communicate effectively with them.Assignments may involve fact gathering, summarizing the results of fact gathering, assimilation of information and reporting on same.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to conduct basic, yet thorough, legal research.Ability to concisely draft legal memoranda and briefs/pleadings.Ability to develop basic understanding of utility industry and NYPA's and its subsidiaries' business units.Must be organized and be able to prioritize assignments.Must have good oral and written communication skills.Education, Experience and Certifications

Juris Doctor Degree and admitted to practice in New York State is required.Physical Requirements

Up to 25% travel primarily within NY State.Compensation

The New York Power Authority is committed to providing fair, competitive, and market-informed compensation. The estimated salary range for this position is: $99,350-$124,190. The salary offered will be determined based on the successful candidates' relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.Diversity and Inclusion
