OVERVIEW:

The Director, Individual Principal Gifts will grow and manage a portfolio of individual principal gift ($100,000+) prospects and donors. The Director identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards these individuals to secure, sustain, and increase annual philanthropic support. Builds and maintains positive, productive, sustainable relationships with donors on behalf of United Way of Greater Houston. Serves as part of the Principal Gifts Team and will help create and implement short and long-range solicitation strategies to meet fundraising goals and objectives. Additionally, the Director will coordinate principal gifts moves management tracking for the Principal Gifts Team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Portfolio Management:

Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward principal gift prospects and donors. Develop an annual and multi-year work plan and strategies, with emphasis on proposal success rate for a portfolio of prospects and donors. Conduct a minimum of eight (8) individual donor visits each month. Ensure that information and activity is recorded in electronic donor records in a timely manner.

Moves Management Coordination:

Responsible for organizing and coordinating outcomes-focused, software-based moves management tracking for the Principal Gifts Team in cooperation with the Advancement Operations Team.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors or better in Nonprofit Development and Administration or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

5-10 years:

Professional experience in donor-centered development with at least (3) years of demonstrated success in donor portfolio management, making asks, and closing major gifts. (3) years supervisory/management experience. Ability and willingness to leverage volunteer relationships and engage these individuals to incorporate peer-to-peer fundraising. Ability to work with a diverse group of donors and volunteers. Proficiency with using software-based donor moves management tracking and reporting.
