In this growth trajectory, Global Procurement contributes significantly through overseeing and developing supplier networks.

Electronic Systems is a key material category for Abiomed products and is comprised of material groups including motors, cables, wires, printed circuit board assembly, and semiconductors. The Associate Director of Electronics (category leader) in Global Procurement will be accountable for overseeing the spend and supplier network of the Electronics category in support of Abiomed’s global business.

This individual will lead a team of electronics category managers and be responsible for developing and driving sourcing strategies, as well as deepening category management skills within the organization. The incumbent in this role will plan, direct, and support the delivery against targets for capacity, contracting, financial performance, supply reliability across quality & service, and compliance adherence.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Category Leadership

As category leader, accountable for all procurement responsibilities on the electronic systems category.

Contribute to building a global procurement vision and strategic roadmap supporting procurement leadership.

Lead assigned strategic key programs of procurement.

Act as a driver to deepen category management practices in the organization and elevate team skillsets.

Lead a team of electronics systems category managers.

Sourcing

Lead and drive sourcing initiatives to identify the right supplier partners, influencing decisions, and delivering ongoing value improvements while driving competitive advantage.

Deliver on supplier capacities, service, reliability, financials, quality, innovation, and growth commitments.

Build and maintain relationships throughout Abiomed that result in dynamic interactive dialogue on a broad range of perspectives and information critical to the development of optimal approaches and solutions.

Support development and drive the Procurement vision for, with and through the stakeholder community.

Drive sourcing activities for electronics to support new products under development in collaboration with Advanced sourcing.

Supplier Management

Manage supplier partnerships to drive performance delivery, risk mitigation, and value through supplier-enabled innovation.

Cultivate and use strategic relationships with key business partners (e.g., internal partners, supplier leadership) to shape, optimize, and diversify the supply base.

Develop innovative and sustainable solutions to identify and mitigate risk, drive long-term, end-to-end value, and achieve unmet business needs. Identify and pursue opportunities to develop supplier capabilities.

Category Strategy Development

Accountable for developing category sourcing strategy for electronics subcategories through business needs assessment, market intelligence, supplier evaluations, and sourcing choices.

Build supply market intelligence and competitor analysis to deliver proactive sourcing strategies.

Build supply network by developing and identifying suppliers utilizing deep subject matter expertise based on supply market analysis and industry intelligence.

Contracting

Systematically and efficiently manage contract creation, approval, administration, and compliance to maximize financial and operational performance while minimizing risk.

Ensure that agreements and the manner they are performed meet the business demands of all collaborators and are aligned with the organization’s overall procurement and business strategy.

QualificationsJob Qualifications:

BS in Engineering, Operations/Supply Chain Management, or related field; MBA/MS preferred.

Electronics or Electrical engineering experience/skills/educational background.

A minimum of 10 years of strong procurement experience required.

Experience in multiple disciplines of Supply Chain, including External Operations, Manufacturing, Procurement, Distribution, and/or related field is advantageous.

Good level of understanding of the motors, cables, wires, printed circuit board assembly, semiconductor, and battery industry is preferred.

Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core procurement areas of focus (e.g., Spend Management, Category Management, Sourcing & Supplier Management).

Strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), influencing, and collaboration skills are key.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to confidently present complex information.

Experience working across regions and understanding markets.

Strong business acumen with electronics or Medical Devices (specifically Abiomed relevant industry) experience preferred.

Continuous improvement/lean/six sigma experience; black belt preferred.

Willingness to travel, particularly to visit suppliers. This position may require up to 30% international travel based on business needs.
