Job Summary/Description:

Hawaii News Now (KGMB/CBS – KHNL/NBC – KFVE/IND - TELEMUNDO) in Honolulu, is looking for a News Director with exceptional news acumen, enviable people skills and the natural ability to collaborate within a high-performing organization.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be an inspiring, hands-on leader with a proven track record of coaching and developing talent, exhibiting journalistic integrity in decision-making, solid organizational skills, and a commitment to covering breaking news and owning the big news story of the day – every day.

Leading and supervising all aspects of news content and gathering, including strategizing, executing, and evaluating coverage plans for the station and its digital properties.

Finding and investing in opportunities for new employees to grow into the next generation of newsroom leaders.

Regularly evaluating newscasts to improve coverage and provide valuable feedback to the news team.

Working collaboratively with other senior station leaders to establish and reach station goals.

Building a culture of workplace integrity, free of harassment, discrimination, and incivility, and filled with opportunities.

Maintaining a positive relationship with viewers, users, and the community we serve through authentic connection and effective communication.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Fluency in English.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Minimum five years experience in news programming production, with at least two years experience in a leadership role.

Experience guiding, directing, and motivating a team, including setting performance standards and monitoring progress.

Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.

Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor, and inspire others to improve their knowledge or skills.

Experience preparing and maintaining departmental budgets.

Proficiency with newsroom and station technology.

Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Ability to effectively listen to fully understand employee needs and communicate with a team to shape a solution.

Experience
