Job Description:
Pharmacy Residency Program Director (RPD): The Pharmacy Services RPD shall be responsible for the oversight of the pharmacy residency program(s) including the Pharmacy Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) program. Shall work in coordination with the Hospital's Osteopathic Residency Program. Responsibilities shall include the planning, coordination, and implementation of the pharmacy residency program(s) in accordance with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) criteria for residency programs, including chairing a pharmacy residency advisory committee. The RPD will collaborate with Pharmacy Leadership and the Graduate Medical Education (GME) department to provide education in pharmacotherapy and student/resident preceptor development. The RPD will manage the training and direct activities of the pharmacy residents to assure completion of the ASHP residency objectives, coordinate pharmacy services related to the hospital's osteopathic residency program, represent pharmacy on appropriate drug policy and other committees within the organization, and shall appoint and develop pharmacy staff to become preceptors for the program. The individual shall possess personal characteristics necessary for successfully fulfilling the responsibilities, including good communication skills, initiative, attention to detail, flexibility, cooperation, a willingness and ability to fill in for other clinical pharmacists, and a commitment to furthering the training of others. RPD shall demonstrate leadership qualities and routinely serve as a role model, both intra and interdepartmentally, as well as demonstrate ongoing professionalism and contribution to the profession. RPD should be knowledgeable about pharmaceutical preparations; drug therapy review and evaluation; drug information sources, retrieval and interpretation; medication use evaluation; use of evidence-based protocols; adverse drug reaction reporting and evaluation; disease state management; and formulary management. This position reports to the Director of Pharmacy Services, supervises pharmacists in the PGY1 residency positions, and interacts with pharmacy staff as well as GME personnel. They will provide feedback regarding evaluation, skills assessment, and development of pharmacist preceptors in the program. Additional responsibilities may be determined by the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy and GME Program Coordinator.

Education:
Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy (BS Pharm) required, Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (Pharm D) preferred
Experience:
PGY1 residency and Three (3) years pharmacy practice experience; or PGY1 + PGY2 with one year of experience; or five (5) years of experience.
Technical Skills:
Thorough knowledge of pharmacy operations. Software skills using MS office, proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel, some knowledge of MS Access. Automation experience with knowledge of reporting features (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotic)
License/Certification:
Current license as Pharmacist in the State of Nevada. Board Certification (BCPS) - must obtain within 18 months.
Other:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide education care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
