Job DescriptionThe University of Missouri System (UM System) serves Missouri as the state's land-grant university and Missouri's only public research and doctoral-level institution. We are seeking a Director of Real Estate for the University of Missouri System with the following principal duties:

Overseeing the acquisition, disposition, monetization and management of University properties.

Coordinating transactional approvals with departments and the Board of Curators.

Overseeing the leasing of ground and space and negotiating with private entities for the execution of space leases external to the University’s campuses.

Implementing strategic public-private partnerships in connection with the development of physical assets on or near the University’s campuses.

Reviewing business transactions for conformance with applicable policies, laws, market conditions, and fiduciary responsibilities.

Managing the common areas and tenant services within the University’s research parks.

Coordinating the hiring and duties of professional consultants (i.e., appraisers, brokers, etc.) to provide best-in-class performance and compliance with policies.

Collaborating with other University leaders in the physical and financial development and management of real estate assets.

Providing real estate expertise to the planning process for the University’s campuses, health system and research parks.

In fulfillment of these real estate duties, the successful candidate will:

Work closely with Office of General Counsel to prepare lease agreements, amendments, and other real estate related documents.

Serve as a primary point of contact for UM System departments and for external tenant/landlord relationships.

Provide UM System departments with interpretational support of lease terms, billing issues, common area maintenance billing and operational expense reconciliations.

Prepare market rate analyses to be used in valuations and budgeting related to the lease or purchase of properties.

Schedule and lead property site visits (occasional travel outside of Columbia, MO required).

Develop and continue to enhance lease administration strategies.

Assist in the preparation of real estate items for presentation to the University’s Board of Curators.

Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight to real estate staff (3 FTE).

Approve and monitor departmental budget performance.

Direct, coordinate, and implement the formulation of operational goals, objectives and policies for the effective management of business and real estate transactions in response to clients’ needs.

Oversee and develop the policies associated with the University’s real estate assets and gifts of real estate to the University endowment and associated entities.

Other tasks as required and assigned.

ShiftMonday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience within the commercial real estate industry with experience specifically working in transaction management, lease administration, portfolio management, sales or property management.

Prior management experience.

Self-motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced, team-centered, results-driven environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong negotiation and interpretation skills including experience with all real estate transaction types and lease structures.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and Peoplesoft.

Strong analytical skills and experience in financial analysis.

Anticipated Hiring RangeSalary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 per year

Grade: GGS-013
